PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Eduard Sporw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Cash (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sporw has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Eduard Sporw!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Johnny Cash!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Phil Schofield and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cash instigates a clinch.

Cash pulls guard.
Cash trying to control the position.
Cash is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Sporw is controlling him.
Sporw has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Cash is proving hard to escape from.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Eduard Sporw has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Cash gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Cash gets a trip takedown into half guard.

Cash is looking for a kimura but Sporw is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Cash to get the leverage.
Cash is trying to control. Sporw wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Cash performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Johnny Cash was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Cash is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Sporw's half guard.
Cash is just content to waste time from the top position. Sporw takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Cash trying to control but Sporw is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cash throws a strike but Sporw rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Sporw is breathing heavily.
Cash looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Sporw would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Sporw postures up.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Johnny Cash.

Cash darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Cash passes to side control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Sporw is trying to buck Cash off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Johnny Cash dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Eduard Sporw's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Excellent takedown into side control there by Cash.
An elbow from Cash crashes against the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cash is looking to take a break and control but Sporw is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Cash is trying to get an arm triangle but Sporw is defending well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Sporw regains half guard there - taking advantage of Cash's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Cash working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Sporw's thigh. Sporw counters though and makes it back to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Cash trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Sporw wants to get back to his feet but Cash is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Cash trying to control the position from guard on top but Sporw is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Cash stands and steps away. Sporw gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cash is looking to slow Sporw down with leg kicks.
Johnny Cash seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cash drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Cash slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Johnny Cash hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Cash pushes Sporw up against the cage in a clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cash is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Cash gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cash trying to control but Sporw is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Johnny Cash showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Eduard Sporw's cut.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!



Cash dives in and scores a takedown into Sporw's guard.
Cash looking to pass the guard.
Cash is looking to work some ground and pound but Sporw has wrist control.
Sporw keeping moving, preventing Cash from controlling successfully.
Sporw on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Sporw tries to get out of the position.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Johnny Cash has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Cash lands a big head kick that sends Sporw tumbling to the mat! Cash takes a step backwards and waves Sporw back to his feet - he wants the finish!

That's one minute gone in the round.

Cash drops Sporw with a beautiful combination! Sporw stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Cash is looking for the KO!


Sporw is rocked!


Eduard Sporw's cut is getting worse.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Cash shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Sporw manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Oh Sporw is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Cash trying to control the position from guard on top but Sporw is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Johnny Cash has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Cash fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Sporw sprawls well initially but Cash persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Sporw seems to have got his legs back now.
Cash thows a huge punch but Sporw dodges it nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sporw is refusing to be controlled, as Cash sits in half guard.
Cash looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Johnny Cash wasn't active enough on the ground.

Cash has managed to clinch.

Cash jumps guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cash is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Cash has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sporw can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Sporw won't allow Cash to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Cash doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Eduard Sporw just wasn't active enough.

Cash looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Sporw!
Cash wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sporw keeps working.
Cash throws a strike aimed at the side of Sporw's head but Sporw avoids it well.
Eduard Sporw has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Johnny Cash is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Cash content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

And that's the end of the fight!
Johnny Cash comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Cash has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
