PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bray Wyatt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Henry Charles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wyatt comes to the cage accompanied by We're Here. Charles is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Don't Fake the Funk by Prince Charles. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 15 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Bray Wyatt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Henry Charles!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Yves DeLean and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A decent looking cross lands there for Wyatt.
Charles closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.


It looks like Henry Charles has been cut.
Charles fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Wyatt.
Charles connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Wyatt lunges at Charles with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Charles's hand.
Charles looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Wyatt is fending him off so far but Charles persists. Nope, Wyatt circles away and we're back to standing.
Wyatt missing with a left hand there. Charles was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Wyatt throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Charles stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Wyatt throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Charles keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Wyatt.
The fighters circling - Charles throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Charles takes a swing at Wyatt's ribcage but misses.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sloppy strikes from Charles. Those never looked like landing.
Charles on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Wyatt. Wyatt obviously looking to wear him down.
Wyatt fails with an attempt to clinch.
Wyatt throws the left hand but Charles avoids the punch easily.
Wyatt lands with a straight right. Charles didn't see that one coming.

Wyatt closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Charles did well to prevent Wyatt getting side control.
Charles told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Still in half guard, Wyatt seems content to control.
Charles tries to get to full guard but Wyatt has control of the leg.
Wyatt wants to advance to full mount but Charles doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Charles wants to control but Wyatt passes easily into half guard.
Charles is refusing to be controlled, as Wyatt sits in half guard.
Wyatt sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Charles defending well though.
Wyatt not doing much here.

Wyatt is keen to just control but Charles is a slippery customer.
Charles moves into full guard.
Charles utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Wyatt with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Charles trying to keep a closed guard but Wyatt is proving a slippery customer.
Charles keeping moving, preventing Wyatt from controlling successfully.
Wyatt is looking to work some ground and pound but Charles has wrist control.

Wyatt seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Bray Wyatt just wasn't active enough.
Charles throws a big shot that misses.

Wyatt closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Charles quickly recovers to half guard.
Wyatt throwing shots but Charles is blocking nicely.

Wyatt is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Charles wants to improve his position but Wyatt is controlling well.
Wyatt wants to pass to mount but Charles is defending the position.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Wyatt in particular looking to stall.
Wyatt wants to control but Charles is keeping him busy.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Wyatt is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Charles with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Wyatt to score with a decent uppercut.

Wyatt rushes Charles and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Charles swings wildly with an uppercut but Wyatt uses good head movement to avoid it.
Charles can't find room to land a body shot as Wyatt controls the action.
Wyatt lands a left hand.
Wyatt doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Charles with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Wyatt scores with a shoulder strike.

Charles is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Wyatt can't fight it off and eventually Charles manages to take the fight to the floor. Wyatt looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Wyatt has his foot on Charles's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Charles works his way back into a safe position though.
Charles lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Wyatt has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wyatt working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Charles doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Charles manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Wyatt is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Charles defends well.
Wyatt has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Charles trying to control the position from guard on top but Wyatt is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Wyatt is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Wyatt is trying to keep Charles in close.
Charles stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wyatt swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Wyatt has control of Charles's left arm, preventing Charles from doing any damage.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Bray Wyatt.

Wyatt walks into a jab.
Wyatt jabs Charles right on the nose. Charles blinks but takes it well.
Charles throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Wyatt fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Charles manages to avoid it.
Wyatt tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Charles connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Wyatt momentarily.
Charles throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Henry Charles is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Charles tries to clinch up but Wyatt circles away and keeps his distance.
Wyatt dodges the punch combination from Charles.
Wyatt just misses with a punch to the body.
Charles blocks a jab.
Wyatt fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Charles.

Charles misses with a few strikes there.
Wyatt feints and then cracks Charles's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Charles down.

enabling Wyatt to counter with a crisp jab.
Wyatt bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Charles's head.
Wyatt tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Charles manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Charles misses the shot to the body.
Wyatt throws the left hand but Charles avoids the punch easily.
Wyatt lands with a thumping leg kick.
Wyatt just misses with a punch to the body.
Wyatt lands with a good body shot.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Wyatt takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
A looping hook to the body misses from Wyatt. Charles does a little dance to reset his feet.
Wyatt will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Wyatt lands a nice shot that snaps Charles's head back.
Bray Wyatt is winning the standup battle so far.
Charles moves away from the strike by Wyatt.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Wyatt keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Wyatt ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Charles moves away.
Wyatt takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Charles tries to clinch but Wyatt moves away
enabling Wyatt to counter with a crisp jab.
Wyatt connects with a solid leg kick.
Wyatt throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Wyatt dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
No joy there for Charles, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Wyatt's jab looks to have found its range, popping Charles under the eye.
Charles misses with a looping left.
Charles lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Wyatt takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Charles doesn't manage to clinch there - Wyatt circles away.
Charles shoots in for a takedown but Wyatt shows good takedown defense.

Charles has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Wyatt.
Charles takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Charles avoids the head kick by Wyatt.
Wyatt looks to score with a jab to the body but Charles is just out of range.
Charles looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Charles fails to land the takedown.
Charles uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Wyatt.
Charles throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Wyatt scores with a jab to the jaw.
Charles checks a leg kick.
Charles on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Charles throws a body kick that misses
and Wyatt counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Charles takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.


Charles is rocked!

Charles moves into the clinch.
Charles misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Wyatt.

A short left from Wyatt.
Our sources have told us that Wyatt has been working on his elbows in the gym.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Wyatt misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Charles blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Charles throws a punch but it's blocked by Wyatt.
Charles throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Wyatt blocks it with crossed arms.
Charles manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Wyatt throws a punch but it's blocked by Charles.
Henry Charles has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Wyatt gets control of Charles's arms and successfully pulls guard. Wyatt will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Charles wants to pass the guard but Wyatt is keeping the position.
Wyatt looking to control.
Charles is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Charles postures up.

Charles is posturing up here but Wyatt has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Charles tries to roll out but it's too tight and Charles has to tap! Slick submission there by Wyatt!

A less than humble Bray Wyatt misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
