PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Anton Pope (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Milner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Milner has chosen Shut Us Down - Lecrae as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Anton Pope!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Daniel Milner!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, William Peck and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pope shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Milner napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Pope is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Milner is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Pope tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Pope has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Milner tries to bench press Pope off him but Pope keeps the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pope drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Pope is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Milner is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Milner seems to be working for a kimura but Pope defends the submission attempt.
Milner thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Pope's head.
Pope is concentrating on defense, preventing Milner from advancing position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Milner has taken the fight to the clinch.

Pope has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Milner is trying to keep an underhook but Pope manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Milner is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Pope wants to lay and pray for a moment but Milner keeps working.
Anton Pope overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Pope misses with a hook. Milner ducked under it nicely.

Pope lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Milner!

Milner had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Pope defends it easily.

Pope looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Pope is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Milner defends it well.

Milner is not content to let Pope control the position.
Milner is looking for a sweep. Pope is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Pope is looking to take a break and control but Milner is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
It looks like Pope is going to stand back up.
Milner wants to improve his position but Pope is controlling well.
Milner has his hands clasped together around Pope's back. He's all about the action.
Milner tries to roll over but Pope keeps him under control.

Pope stalling.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Anton Pope.
Pope feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Milners jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
