Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jonathan Surman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Matthews (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Matthews has chosen Soulja Boy (Travis Barker Remix) as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A lazy left from Matthews finds it's target.

Surman closes the distance and clinches.

Surman escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Surman takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Matthews fails with the takedown.

Matthews looking to hit a scissor sweep but Surman is one step ahead there.

Matthews wriggles free and stands up.
Surman is looking to clinch but Matthews is avoiding it.

and Matthews counters with a good low kick that Surman was not able to check.
John Matthews seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Matthews's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Matthews duly obliges.

Matthews wants to stand and escape but instead Surman has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Jonathan Surman will probably get the nod.

Surman shoots in and bounces Matthews off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

and Surman holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Surman is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Matthews is keeping busy.

Surman breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Matthews closes the distance looking to clinch

and Surman counters with a single leg into guard. Matthews didn't expect that.
Surman wants to pass the guard but Matthews is keeping the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Surman has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Matthews regains guard immediately.

Matthews throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Matthews throws a wild body kick that Surman sees coming a mile off.
Surman shoots in and drives through. Matthews sprawls well.
Matthews wants to clinch
and Surman counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Matthews is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Surman drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Matthews breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Surman on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Matthews. Matthews obviously looking to wear him down.

Matthews wants to control but Surman is keeping busy.
Matthews is trying to keep from getting into a worse position than he's already in but Matthews is working away and isn't letting himself get tied up.

Matthews is controlling Surman's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Matthews is trying to stand.
Matthews is pressing down on Surman's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Matthews is wriggling around but Surman manages to pass to half guard.
Matthews is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Surman is taking a breather. Matthews says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Surman misses with a head shot. Matthews uses the momentum to regain guard.
Matthews wants to stand but Surman is controlling the position.
Surman content to stall in guard here.
John Matthews has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Matthews trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to John Matthews.
I think Surman has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
