PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Damian Acevedo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexandr Shlemenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Damian Acevedo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alexandr Shlemenko!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Elvis Blanc and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some wild striking there from Shlemenko.

Acevedo tries to sprawl but Shlemenko drives through with a takedown into half guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Acevedo is trying to get back to full guard.

Acevedo is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Shlemenko pulls his head out easily.

Acevedo could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Shlemenko is looking for a kimura but Acevedo is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Shlemenko to get the leverage.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Shlemenko tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Acevedo manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Shlemenko feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Acevedo is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Shlemenko is aware though and is defending well.
Shlemenko wants to control from the top but Acevedo keeps moving.

Acevedo has his foot on Shlemenko's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Shlemenko works his way back into a safe position though.

Acevedo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Shlemenko gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Shlemenko sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Acevedo's guard.

Shlemenko closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Acevedo to the mat! Acevedo manages to get full guard.
Shlemenko wants to get up but he can't break Acevedo's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Acevedo working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Shlemenko doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Shlemenko manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Acevedo is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Shlemenko to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Shlemenko shrugs it off.

Acevedo stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Well Shlemenko has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
