The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Nyrkki rushes Mendoza and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Nyrkki unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Mendoza looks winded!

Nyrkki forces Mendoza back against the cage and clinches.
Nyrkki lands an elbow inside that Mendoza shrugs off.

Mendoza stops Nyrkki from standing up.
Nyrkki has Mendoza pulled in close to control his posture.
Mendoza in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Marvin Mendoza was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Nyrkki takes the fight into the clinch.

Nyrkki jumps guard and drags Mendoza to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Nyrkki knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mendoza on the ground.
Nyrkki wants to sweep but no luck.

Mendoza is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Nyrkki is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Marvin Mendoza.

Nyrkki closes the distance and clinches.
Nyrkki is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
A bit of stalling here from Nyrkki.

Nyrkki wants the takedown. Mendoza is fighting it off but Nyrkki persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Mendoza's guard against the cage.
Mendoza is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Kalja Nyrkki has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Mendoza tries to clinch up.

Nyrkki has closed the distance and engaged Mendoza in a clinch.

Nyrkki's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Nyrkki lands a big right hand that sends Mendoza crashing to the mat! Nyrkki stays standing though and waves Mendoza back to his feet!

Mendoza is rocked!

Mendoza tries to keep at a distance but Nyrkki has taken the fight into the clinch.
Mendoza is still on wobbly legs! Can Nyrkki finish him?

Nyrkki gets control of Mendoza's arms and successfully pulls guard. Nyrkki will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

We're going to have a standup here because Kalja Nyrkki wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Nyrkki plants his feet and throws a 3 punch combo. Miss, miss, boom! The third punch, a big right hook, connects right on the temple and drops Mendoza to the mat, unconscious! This fight is all over! Mendoza just couldn't keep out of the way of the whole flurry of punches!
