Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mr Red (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Red's entrance music is Where Is My Mind by The Pixies. A fine choice. Tony Mendez will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 16 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mr Red!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 45 - 26 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tony Mendez!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Lou da Vinci and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Red lands a nice hook to Mendez's body. Mendez takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Mendez drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Mendez tries to advance to mount but can't.
Mendez working away.
Mendez trying to control the position but Red is working away.
Mendez misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Red is looking to regain half guard here but Mendez keeps moving and retains side control.
Mendez passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Red!

Red sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Red is pressing down on Mendez's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Mendez postures up and lands a big shot to Red's brow.

Red is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Red not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Red tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mendez cracks Red with a solid left hand.

Mendez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Red has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mendez has managed to get both his arms back between Red's legs - danger averted.
Mendez passes Red's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Mendez is looking to advance position but Red won't allow it.

Mendez looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Red with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Mendez throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Mendez lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Mendez is looking for submissions but instead, Red has regained full guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mendez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Red swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Red is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Red utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Mendez slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Red dodges the ground and pound from Mendez.
The strikes coming from Mendez are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Mendez passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Red!
Mendez lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Red hang on?
Red tries to hold on but Mendez pushes him away.

Red is rocked!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Red in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Oh Red is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Red wants to try and get back to his feet.
Red wants to hold on but Mendez pushes him away.
Mendez trying to control but Red is having none of it.
Mendez looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Red seems to have got his legs back now.
Nice takedown defense from Red. No joy for Mendez on that attempt.

Mendez is looking to slow Red down with leg kicks.
Mendez closes the distance and clinches up with Red, looking for a takedown. Mendez pushes Red against the cage but Red circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Mendez looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Mr Red has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tony Mendez.

Mendez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Red pinned against the cage. Red gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Mendez closes the distance and clinches up with Red, looking for a takedown. Mendez pushes Red against the cage but Red circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Mendez ducks under a wild hook from Red.
Mendez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Red tries to avoid it but Mendez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Red to the ground. Red escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Nice defenses there by Mendez.
Tony Mendez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mendez fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Mendez feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Red's calf.
Horrible takedown by Mendez or perhaps it was just good defense by Red which made him look bad.

Red stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Mendez.

Mendez dives in for a single leg takedown but Red sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Red gets underhooks to prevent Mendez's takedown attempt.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A right hook to the body lands for Red.
Mendez is breathing heavily.
Red pushes Mendez back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.

Red escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Mendez misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Red will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Mendez has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.

Tony Mendez seems to be getting the better of the standup.

enabling Red to counter with a crisp jab.

Mendez ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Red moves away.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Red checks a leg kick.
Mendez shoots in but no luck this time.
Mendez throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Red has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Mendez.
Mendez shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Red lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Mendez backs up against the cage.

Mendez shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Mendez was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Red tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Mendez wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Mendez thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Mendez takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Mendez wants to control but Red is keeping him busy.

Red is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Mendez is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Red knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Red manages to work his way to half guard, despite Mendez's best efforts.
Mendez is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Red flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Red tries to reverse the position but Mendez maintains control.
Mr Red has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Mendez loads up with a big shot that hurts Red! He's pulled Mendez in close but Mendez has postured up and lands more strikes. Can Red survive? More strikes from Mendez and Red is out! The ref jumps in to save him! Brutal ground and pound!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:54 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Tony Mendez!
After the fight, Tony Mendez was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
