PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mauricio Austin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dean Preston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Mauricio Austin has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Mauricio Austin seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Preston gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Preston wants to pass the guard but Austin is keeping the position.

Preston stands up over Austin, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Austin pulls Preston in to control the position.
Preston is stalling in the full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Dean Preston was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Preston pushes Austin up against the cage in a clinch.
Preston is pressed up against the cage. Austin has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Preston down to the mat. Preston avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Preston goes for a double leg but Austin avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Austin continues to drive forward.

Preston gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Austin regains guard.
Austin has a closed guard, preventing Preston from standing up.
Preston stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Austin swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Austin cracks Preston with a big right hand but Preston just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Preston gets back to half guard.
Preston wants to get back to full guard but Austin has mounted him!

Preston wants to hold on but Austin pushes him away.
Austin wants to take Preston 's back here but Preston is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
Preston sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Austin winds up and cracks Preston with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

The fighters are battling for position here. Preston manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Preston wants to stand up but Austin is controlling him.
Austin is looking to stand up but Preston won't let him.
Preston avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Preston wants to control the position but Austin says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Preston wants to improve his position but Austin is controlling well.
Austin not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Preston is trying to control but can't.
Austin has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Dean Preston hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Preston shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Preston was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Austin is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Austin holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Austin is not content to let Preston control the position.
Austin tries to roll over but Preston keeps him under control.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Austin regains full guard. Nicely done.

That was a close second round but I would say that Mauricio Austin will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Preston moves into the clinch successfully.
Preston is trying to break the clinch but Austin has him pressed against the cage.

Austin has hold of one of Preston 's legs. Preston is fighting the takedown attempt but Austin gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Austin got a little sloppy there for a moment and Preston has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Austin has managed to get both his arms back between Preston 's legs - danger averted.
Austin is looking to work some ground and pound but Preston has wrist control.
Austin scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Preston is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Austin with a flurry of punches that miss.

Mauricio Austin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
