Cross's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, She Blinded Me With Science - Thomas Dolby. Aaron Alverez has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Aaron Alverez!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Franklyn Lucas and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cross shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Cross showed some decent athleticism there.
Alverez looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Cross drops an elbow to the side of Alverez's head.
Cross slips a nice elbow through Alverez's hands, connecting with Alverez's forehead.
Alverez avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Cross.
Cross throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Cross is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Alverez is just riding it out for now. Cross eventually gives up the hold.

Cross seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Cross looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Alverez with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Cross is trying to control the action in half guard but Alverez is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Cross lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Alverez is still in real trouble! Can Cross finish him?
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cross lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Alverez quite badly. Alverez pulls Cross in close trying to recover. Cross postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Alverez on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Alverez doesn't seem to be complaining too much.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Robert Cross!
