PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Paul Anderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Greg Dengel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dengel has chosen Angel of Death as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Greg Dengel is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Paul Anderson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Greg Dengel!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Jorge Garcia and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dengel scores a takedown into full mount!
Anderson tries to hold on but Dengel pushes him away.
Dengel throws some wild stikes that Anderson manages to avoid easily.
Anderson is trying to escape the mount.
Dengel avoids the attempt from Anderson to control.
Dengel wants to get back to his feet but Anderson is holding on tight.
Dengel looking to control and managing it successfully.

Dengel jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Anderson is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Anderson and Dengel has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Dengel tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
You can see the frustration on Anderson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Anderson sneaks out the side door and pushes Dengel away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Dengel throws a low kick but it's checked well by Anderson.
Dengel cracks a nice hook into Anderson's ribs.
Anderson is breathing heavily.
Dengel shoots in looking for a takedown. Anderson tries to sprawl out of it but Dengel keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Anderson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Anderson tries to keep at a distance but Dengel has taken the fight into the clinch.

Anderson is pressed up against the cage. Dengel has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Anderson down to the mat. Anderson avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Anderson clinches up with Dengel and pushes him back against the cage.
Anderson tries to pull guard but Dengel holds him up against the cage and eventually Anderson drops back down to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Dengel drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Anderson gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Paul Anderson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Greg Dengel.
Dengel tries to pull guard but Anderson won't allow it.

Dengel pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

and Dengel counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Dengel tightens his grip and picks Anderson up, before dumping him to the ground. Anderson manages to land in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dengel tries to free his leg and advance position but Anderson is retaining full guard.
Dengel must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Dengel drops back looking for a leg! Anderson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Anderson manages to kick Dengel off! Dengel jumps back into Anderson's guard.

Dengel postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Anderson is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Dengel, into his guard.

Dengel has momentary wrist control but Anderson slips an elbow through the middle.
Anderson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Dengel has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Anderson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Anderson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Anderson is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Dengel working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Anderson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Anderson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Dengel working for submissions but it's allowed Anderson to get to half guard.
Anderson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Dengel has his foot on Anderson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Anderson works his way back into a safe position though.

Anderson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Anderson lands a nice short elbow.

Anderson is tying to control. Dengel wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Anderson thows a huge punch but Dengel dodges it nicely.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Anderson wants to stand and escape but instead Dengel has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Dengel drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Dengel as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Anderson screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Dengel! Nice submission victory there!
