PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Andrzej Rostowski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Jaffer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rostowski comes into the arena with VITER - Marichka blaring out of the sound system. Jaffer has chosen DubRaider- Starry Eyes as his entrance music. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as James Jaffer enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Andrzej Rostowski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, James Jaffer!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Marco Blurström and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rostowski avoids the body shot from Jaffer.

Jaffer closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Jaffer seems to be looking for submissions.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rostowski is not content to let Jaffer control the position.

Jaffer is looking for a kimura but Rostowski is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Jaffer to get the leverage.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Jaffer in particular looking to stall.

Rostowski manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jaffer manages to get himself to full guard.

Jaffer might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Rostowski haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

I was talking to Rostowski's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Rostowski is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Rostowski looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rostowski darts in looking for a takedown but Jaffer gets double underhooks and turns Rostowski into the cage.

Jaffer gets through Rostowski's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

Jaffer has Rostowski pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Jaffer pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Rostowski tumbling to the mat - Jaffer dives into Rostowski's guard.

Rostowski has his foot on Jaffer's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jaffer works his way back into a safe position though.

Jaffer shoots in but Rostowski avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Jaffer tries to bum rush Rostowski with a series of wild strikes but Rostowski uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Jaffer throws a right and a left that Rostowski avoids nicely.
Jaffer fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Rostowski manages to avoid it.
Rostowski shoots in for a takedown but Jaffer shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Jaffer enables Rostowski to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Jaffer manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Rostowski drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rostowski jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Rostowski tries to stand but Jaffer is controlling from the bottom.

Rostowski drops back, looking for a kneebar! Jaffer looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Jaffer looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Jaffer!
Rostowski tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Jaffer wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Rostowski takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

Rostowski on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Rostowski is trying to control Jaffer's posture but Jaffer avoids it.
Jaffer is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Rostowski will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Let's hope that Jaffer has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

James Jaffer comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Jaffer has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
