PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Christian Scott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Esko Jazz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jazz has chosen AC/DC - Back in Black as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Christian Scott!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Esko Jazz!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Ivan Kurochkin and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jazz closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Scott tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jazz swivels and escapes.
Scott closes the distance and clinches up with Jazz, looking for a takedown. Scott pushes Jazz against the cage but Jazz circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Jazz had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Scott is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Jazz Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Scott's back instead.
Scott is taking damage to the body and head.
Jazz keeps control of the position as Scott tries to break free.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Jazz's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Scott grimaces as he takes a shot to the body.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
I really don't envy Scott right now.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

and Jazz counters by moving into the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Christian Scott. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Scott is trying to drag Jazz to the mat but Jazz just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Scott blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Jazz has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Scott regains guard immediately.
Jazz wants to control from the top but Scott keeps moving.

Jazz has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Jazz tries to free his leg and advance position but Scott is retaining full guard.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Jazz moves into range and clinches up with Scott.
Scott jumps guard but Jazz stands there with Scott around his waist. Scott gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Jazz prevents a takedown attempt there.
Jazz tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Scott just stands there and leans against the cage.

Scott has Jazz pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Jazz manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Scott is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Jazz is pressing down on Scott's thigh, looking to free his foot. Scott is holding on for now.

Jazz sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Scott's guard.

Scott controls Jazz momentarily but Jazz frees himself.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Jazz has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Scott is working away from the top position though.
Scott wants to control but Jazz is keeping him busy.
Scott seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Jazz counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Esko Jazz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Scott connects with a nice short shot to Jazz's temple.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Scott shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Christian Scott showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Jazz has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
