PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Burza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Severi Suhonen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Burza comes to the cage accompanied by Metallica - Enter Sandman. Suhonen has chosen Lentävä Kalakukko as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, John Burza!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Severi Suhonen!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Patrick Alders and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Suhonen moves out of range of the strikes.

Burza throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Suhonen was covering up waiting for the punch and Burza finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Suhonen looking for a guillotine here but Burza defends easily.
Burza wants to stand but Suhonen is controlling his posture from full guard.
Suhonen is trying to keep Burza in close.

Suhonen has his foot on Burza's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Burza works his way back into a safe position though.

Burza thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Suhonen is looking to control Burza's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Suhonen avoid being mounted?

Burza has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Burza wants to control the pace but Suhonen is squirming around nicely.
Suhonen is trying desperately to improve position.
Burza wants to take Suhonen's back here but Suhonen is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.

Burza tries to control but Suhonen wriggling away.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Burza jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Suhonen manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Burza goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Suhonen rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Burza's guard! Nice work there by Suhonen!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Suhonen throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Burza works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Suhonen tries to free his leg and advance position but Burza is retaining full guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The ref stands the fighters back up because John Burza just wasn't active enough.
Burza lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Burza goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Burza connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Burza looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Suhonen misses with a looping right.
Burza rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Suhonen moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Burza looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Suhonen has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.

Burza gets a double leg takedown into Suhonen's guard.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Suhonen lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Burza!
Burza is in all sorts of trouble here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Suhonen throws an overhand right that lands on Burza's shoulder, as Burza tries to avoid the shot.
Suhonen uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Burza.

Burza shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Suhonen is looking to regain full guard. He's left an arm up in the air though and Burza has latched onto it... Big trouble! Burza pivots for an armbar - it's in tight and it Suhonen is tapping in no time flat! Great counter grappling there from Burza!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:34 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). John Burza!

An intense looking John Burza took to the microphone post fight and gave a little speech: 'I want to thank Feral Combat for this opportunity to fight for this belt and to be their champion. I plan on holding onto this belt for a long time.'.
