Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Simon Phoenix (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Takeshi Kovacks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Simon Phoenix!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Takeshi Kovacks!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Stewart Dunkirk and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kovacks connects with a solid leg kick.
Kovacks looks to score with a jab to the body but Phoenix is just out of range.
That kick from Kovacks tenderised Phoenix's leg. Phoenix is trying to keep his angry face on.
Phoenix fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Kovacks lands with a thumping leg kick.

and Phoenix counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Kovacks bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Phoenix has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

You can see the frustration on Phoenix's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Phoenix managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Kovacks.

Kovacks looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Phoenix is avoiding damage well.
Phoenix wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Phoenix avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Kovacks.
Kovacks tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

You can see the frustration on Phoenix's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Kovacks wants to control for a moment but Phoenix uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Phoenix regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Kovacks.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kovacks controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Phoenix is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Phoenix utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Phoenix is looking to stand up but Kovacks isn't so interested in that idea.
Kovacks has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Takeshi Kovacks dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


A looping hook to the body misses from Kovacks. Phoenix does a little dance to reset his feet.

Kovacks fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Phoenix manages to avoid it.

Takeshi Kovacks seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Phoenix on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Kovacks is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Phoenix rather than just go for the knockout.

Oooooh!!! Phoenix has knocked Kovacks down with a huge combo! Phoenix steps away and waves a wobbly Kovacks back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

Kovacks swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Simon Phoenix is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

and Phoenix counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.


Kovacks is rocked!
Phoenix plants his feet and throws a brutal three punch combo that sends Kovacks swiftly into unconsciousness! Right, left, right! Boom, boom, boom! Kovacks face plants, battered and bloodied! He might never be the same again after that finish!
