Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Akiyama Shinichi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Woods (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Akiyama Shinichi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jack Woods!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Woods lands a head kick!
Shinichi wants to clinch but Woods slips to the side

and Woods counters by moving into the clinch.

Woods ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Woods no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Woods wants to sweep here but Shinichi controlling him for the moment.
Shinichi tries to free his leg and advance position but Woods is retaining full guard.
We've been hearing good reports from Shinichi's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Shinichi is looking to advance position but Woods has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Woods is nestled in close to Shinichi, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Shinichi working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Woods doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Woods manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Woods wants to lay and pray for a moment but Shinichi keeps working.

Shinichi is positioning himself well to prevent Woods advancing to mount.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Woods wants to pass the guard but Shinichi is defending well.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A head kick misses from Woods.

Shinichi throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Woods tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Shinichi is in Woods's guard.

Woods wants to sweep but no luck.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Woods has his hands on Shinichi's head, controlling the position.

Shinichi wants to pass the guard but Woods is keeping the position.

Woods controls Shinichi momentarily but Shinichi frees himself.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Shinichi shoots in but no luck this time.
Shinichi misses with a takedown attempt
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Woods checks a low kick from Shinichi.
A bone on bone clash there as Shinichi blocks the leg kick.
Shinichi shoots in for a double leg but Woods sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Akiyama Shinichi. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Woods throws a head kick that misses.

Shinichi clinches.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Woods wants the takedown. Shinichi is fighting it off but Woods persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Shinichi's guard against the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Shinichi shoots in for a takedown but Woods shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Woods throws out a leg kick but Shinichi moves out of range and Woods only half commits.
Woods connects with an inside leg kick.
Shinichi stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Woods.

Woods shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Woods was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Woods wants to lay and pray for a moment but Shinichi keeps working.
Woods tries to score with some ground and pound. Shinichi controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Shinichi wants to control but Woods postures up.

Woods tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Woods has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Shinichi stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Woods swivels though and keeps the full guard.

I would just about give that final round to Jack Woods.
Well Woods has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
