PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Miguel Torres (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zarek Reschke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Torres comes to the cage accompanied by Old Way's. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Miguel Torres!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Zarek Reschke!
The judges for this bout are Ben Watson, Ron Honeybunn and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Torres shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Reschke pinned against the cage. Reschke gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Torres misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Reschke dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Torres. That did some damage!
Reschke throws a jab when Torres was well out of range.
Torres takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Reschke lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Torres throws a lazy right hand but Reschke sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Torres has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

We've been informed that Reschke has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.

Torres is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.

The fighters circling - Reschke throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Reschke.

This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Torres. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.
Reschke lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Reschke cracks a nice hook into Torres's ribs.

Torres stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
A punch lands to the side of Torres 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Torres is looking to wear down Reschke with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Torres takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Reschke buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Torres throws a right hand that Reschke ducks under and follows up with a left that Reschke also avoids with ease.

Reschke jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Reschke feints and then cracks Torres's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Torres down.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Torres uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Reschke has time to react.

Reschke is looking to control Torres's arms but Torres gets an underhook and turns him. Now Reschke has his back to the cage.
Reschke is trying to slow the pace down but that's a couple of times in a row that he's tried to get underhooks and Torres has denied him.
Torres is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Reschke is defending well.
Reschke tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Torres avoids it.
Reschke lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

A nice left hand lands by Reschke.
Torres pushes Reschke back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Torres is trying to trip Reschke. He has hold of a leg but Reschke is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Torres persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Reschke is looking to stand up but Torres isn't so interested in that idea.

Torres throws a big elbow that misses.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Torres drops back, looking for a kneebar! Reschke looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Reschke looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Reschke!

Reschke decides to stand back up. Reschke steps back and let's Torres get back to his feet.

Torres attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
The fight stays on the outside here - Reschke looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Torres will be looking to protect his midsection after taking some solid kicks to the body.

Torres has hold of one of Reschke's legs. Reschke is fighting the takedown attempt but Torres gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Torres wants to control from the top but Reschke keeps moving.
Reschke is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Reschke can do anything to dispel that myth.

Torres shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Reschke sprawls well. Reschke wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Torres gets slowly back to his feet.
Torres fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Reschke avoids it really well and circles away.
Torres takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Torres throws a series of punches but Reschke avoids them all with ease.

Torres has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Reschke tries to escape but Torres is in control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Torres will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Torres has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Reschke regains half guard, as Torres was trying to land strikes.

Miguel Torres overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Torres passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Reschke!
Torres throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Reschke because Torres loaded up on that one.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Reschke is bucking up trying to escape but Torres cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Zarek Reschke is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Reschke is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

And that's the end of the fight!

I think Reschke has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
