PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Slap Nuts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Thomas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nuts kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Never Surrender. Chris Thomas is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Slap Nuts!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chris Thomas!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Johanna Lukiainen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nuts misses with a few strikes there.
Nuts misses with a kick to the body.
Nuts looks to score with a jab to the body but Thomas is just out of range.
That kick from Nuts tenderised Thomas's leg. Thomas is trying to keep his angry face on.
Thomas scores with a hook.
Thomas tries for a takedown but Nuts sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Nuts leaves Thomas with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Thomas moves out of range of the body kick from Nuts.
Thomas tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Nuts defends well and Thomas ends up having to push Nuts into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Slap Nuts has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Thomas.
Nuts manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

We've been told by Nuts's head coaches at Cozad MMA Helsinki that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Nuts fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Thomas.
Slap Nuts is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Nuts scores with a kick to the midsection.
Thomas will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Thomas drops his hands momentarily and Nuts takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Nuts looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Nuts leaves Thomas with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Nuts, right into the meat.
Thomas shoots in looking for a takedown. Nuts tries to sprawl out of it but Thomas keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Nuts manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Nuts swings for the body but Thomas moves out of range.

Nuts throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Nuts lands a nice leg kick that just misses Thomas's sensitive parts.
Thomas has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Nuts.
Nuts takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Thomas takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Nuts connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Nuts cracks Thomas with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Nuts circles away from the clinch attempt.
Thomas tries to clinch up but Nuts circles away and keeps his distance.
Nuts checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Thomas throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Thomas has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Nuts.
Nuts moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Thomas is trying hard to land a takedown here. Nuts sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Thomas shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Nuts pinned against the cage. Nuts gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Thomas gets tackled into the cage by Nuts. Nuts maintains the clinch.
Nuts lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Nuts's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
The crowd cheers as Nuts lands an impressive looking overhand right. Thomas doesn't seem phased though.
Nuts throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Thomas.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Nuts forces Thomas back against the cage and clinches.
Thomas is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Nuts gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Nuts can't find room to land a body shot as Thomas controls the action.
Thomas is trying to pull guard but Nuts turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
The referee is keeping an eye on Nuts - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Thomas shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Nuts as he jumps to the side.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Thomas.

Thomas fails to land with a series of punches.
Nuts misses with a head kick.
Thomas fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Thomas takes a jab right on the kisser.

Thomas shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Nuts's guard.
Nuts bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Thomas's guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Thomas can do anything to dispel that myth.

Nuts thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Nuts is looking to work some ground and pound but Thomas has wrist control.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Nuts is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Thomas's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Thomas's back!

Nuts has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Thomas has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Thomas takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Nuts is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Thomas knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Thomas for a finish.

You can see the frustration on Thomas's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Thomas really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nuts. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Slap Nuts is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Nuts has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

I really don't envy Thomas right now.
Nuts lands a shot to the head.

Nuts is hanging on to Thomas's back as he tries to escape.
Thomas is still trying to improve position.
Nuts punches the canvas rather than the man.
Nuts slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Nuts's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Slap Nuts overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Well Nuts has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After the fight, Slap Nuts was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
In defeat, Chris Thomas stepped up to the mic, saying 'Well I had an ok fight. He just had a better fight.'.
