The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hearon looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

David looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

It looks like Hearon might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Hearon has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but David is on him like a limpet, forcing Hearon back against the cage.
David presses Hearon against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.

Hearon has hold of one of David's legs. David is fighting the takedown attempt but Hearon gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

David has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Hearon is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for David.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Hearon tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hearon has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Hearon decides to stand up, so the ref orders David to his feet.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Nik Hearon wasn't active enough on the ground.
David throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Hearon counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
David thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Hearon if he has to take too many more of those.
Hearon tries to clinch there but David circles away.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Hearon drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

David got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hearon has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, David has managed to get both his arms back between Hearon's legs - danger averted.

David postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hearon is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of David, into his guard.

Nik Hearon showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
