Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Trevor McNeil!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Ian Loll and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by McNeil.
Gaines is trying to get back to half guard.
McNeil trying to control the action but Gaines is working from the bottom.
Gaines is trying to control McNeil's posture but McNeil avoids it.
Gaines is looking for a sweep.
Gaines is trying to control McNeil's posture but McNeil avoids it.
Gaines takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

McNeil tries to stand but Gaines is controlling his head.

Gaines gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Gaines is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
McNeil is looking to advance position but Gaines won't allow it.

Gaines is not content to let McNeil control the position.

Trevor McNeil has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
McNeil moves out of range as Gaines throws a body kick.

That was a close round but I would say that Ivan Gaines will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



McNeil gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

McNeil has picked Gaines up - he's going for a ride! McNeil dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

McNeil is breathing heavily.
Gaines striking off his back but it's not causing McNeil any problems.

McNeil in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Gaines wants to control the position but McNeil says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

McNeil is trying to control the action in half guard but Gaines is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Gaines pulls McNeil in close to his closed guard and prevents McNeil from doing any damage or advancing position.
McNeil seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
McNeil swats away the attempt to clinch by Gaines.

McNeil avoids a kick to the body.

Gaines rushes McNeil and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
McNeil trying to land knees to the body.
Gaines is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Gaines manages to break the clinch.

McNeil closes the distance and clinches.

McNeil gets control of Gaines's arms and successfully pulls guard. McNeil will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Gaines keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of McNeil's head.
McNeil has a closed guard, preventing Gaines from standing up.
Gaines throws a big elbow that misses.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McNeil is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
McNeil looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
McNeil is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

That was a close second round but I would say that Ivan Gaines will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Gaines decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
McNeil pushes Gaines off but Gaines dives into side control.
McNeil is trying to control Gaines's posture but Gaines avoids it.

Gaines is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but McNeil is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
McNeil is trying to get back to half guard.
McNeil takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

McNeil can't do much from the bottom here.

Gaines stands up and we're back to a striking position.
McNeil takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Gaines fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Ivan Gaines.
Gaines throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.

McNeil shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Gaines napping and manages to drive through into side control!
McNeil wants to control but Gaines is keeping him busy.
McNeil tries to move into full mount but can't pass Gaines's legs.

McNeil wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gaines keeps working.
Ivan Gaines overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Gaines holds on to McNeil's head and controls the position momentarily.
Trevor McNeil has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Gaines, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
