PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jonathan Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sergei Kuula (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kuula has chosen The Rolling Stones - Sympathy For The Devil as his entrance music. On his way into the cage it seems that Jonathan Jones has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Jonathan Jones seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jonathan Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Sergei Kuula!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Paulsen Ambrosius and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Kuula misses with a wild combination.
Jonathan Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Jones changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kuula looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kuula tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Jones wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Jones is trying to control the action in half guard but Kuula is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Kuula pushes Jones off looking to stand but Jones dives back in and keeps control.
Kuula tries to kick Jones off in order to stand up. Jones Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Kuula is trying to control Jones's posture but Jones avoids it.

Jones seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Kuula for as long as he can get away with.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Kuula is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Jones's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Jones's back!

Jones is in a bad position with Kuula working for a choke. Jones manages to spin nicely into guard and the danger is over for the moment.

Jones slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Kuula keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully.
Jones not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Jonathan Jones just wasn't active enough.

Jones feints and as Kuula raises his hands in defense, Jones changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jones is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Jones has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kuula misses with an uppercut

and Jones holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Kuula blocks an elbow strike from Jones.
Jones throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Kuula lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Kuula is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Jones to keep the fight standing.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Sergei Kuula has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Jones shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Jones was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Kuula has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
The referee asks Jones politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Jones prefers to stall for the moment though.
Jones has control of an arm but Kuula manages to advance to Jones's back!

Jones looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Despite being in a bad position, Jones is controlling the hands, preventing any submission attempts.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jonathan Jones.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Jones, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
