PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Huey Bright (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Split Rush (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Huey Bright has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Huey Bright!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Split Rush!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Trevor Gratis and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rush has closed the distance and engaged Bright in a clinch.
Bright tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Rush smiles and moves away.
Rush throws a push kick but Bright slaps the foot to one side.

Rush shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Bright manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Bright managing to control the position.
Bright keeping moving, preventing Rush from controlling successfully.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bright looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Rush puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Rush wants to pass the guard but Bright is defending well.
Rush wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bright keeps working.
Rush works his way into side control.

Rush swings around for an armbar but Bright sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Rush's guard.
Bright could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bright would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Rush thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Bright seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bright wants to stand but Rush has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Rush is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Bright throws a big right hand that misses.
Bright looking to sit in guard and control but Rush gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Rush trying to control the position from guard on top but Bright is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Bright might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rush controlling from the top position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Split Rush.

Rush moves into range and clinches up with Bright.

Rush pulls guard successfully.
Bright trying to control but Rush is working from the bottom.
Bright is looking to stand up but Rush won't let him.
Rush trying to control the position here.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Rush can do anything to dispel that myth.
Rush is trying to control the position but Bright postures up.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Bright passes Rush's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Bright thows a huge punch but Rush dodges it nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Split Rush dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Bright drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Rush takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Rush tries to buck Bright off but Bright is having none of it.
Rush defending against the ground and pound.
Rush is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Bright is controlling him well.
Bright misses with the ground and pound.
Rush is trying to get back to half guard.

Bright stands up.

Rush fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Bright sprawls well initially but Rush persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Bright tries to get to full guard but Rush has control of the leg.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rush wants to stand but Bright has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Bright trying to control but Rush postures up.
Rush passes to side control.
Rush advances to mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rush wants to control the pace but Bright is squirming around nicely.
Bright tries to reverse the position but Rush maintains control.
Rush looking to control and managing it successfully.
Rush lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rush looking to finish Bright with some ground and pound. This is bad for Bright!
Rush can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Bright is looking to escape.
Bright is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rush content just to control the position here.
Rush unloading with bombs!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Split Rush showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. And we move into the final round!



Rush bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Rush scoring with punches from side control.
Rush wants to control but Bright is keeping him busy.
Rush is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rush taking a break here but Bright is having none of it and regains half guard.
Bright trying to get back to full guard but Rush takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Rush cracks Bright with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Rush goes for an armbar but Bright turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Bright.
Rush keeping moving, preventing Bright from controlling successfully.
Bright throws a big elbow that misses.
Rush doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Rush is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Bright punching from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rush controlling the pace.

Rush is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Bright sees it coming and defends easily.
Bright trying to control from the bottom.
Rush not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Rush performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Split Rush wasn't active enough on the ground.

Rush gets the takedown into side control.
Rush wants to stand but Bright has his arm trapped.

Rush tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Rush has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Rush takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Bright can't do much from the bottom here.

And that's the end of the fight!
Split Rush comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Rush has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
