Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Abram Watkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dean Preston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Abram Watkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 1, fighting out of New York, Dean Preston !
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Franklyn Lucas and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Watkins gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Watkins is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Preston sitting in guard here, content to control.
Watkins looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Preston trying to control but Watkins is working from the bottom.
Watkins is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Preston must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Dean Preston wasn't active enough on the ground.
Preston lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Watkins circles away quickly and effectively.
Watkins has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Preston .

Watkins moves into range and clinches up with Preston .

Preston breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Preston is defended easily by Watkins.
Watkins tries to score a power double leg takedown but Preston sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Watkins somewhat.

and Watkins counters with a takedown into side control.

Watkins will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
You can see the frustration on Preston 's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Preston tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Watkins presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Watkins throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Preston is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Preston takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Watkins connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Watkins throws some wild stikes that Preston manages to avoid easily.
Preston gets back to half guard.

Watkins is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Preston defends it well.

Watkins is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

We've been informed that Preston has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Watkins is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Preston is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

We're going to have a standup here because Abram Watkins wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Preston rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Watkins moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Preston throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Watkins on the side of the head.
Watkins doesn't manage to clinch there - Preston circles away.

Preston is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Watkins to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Watkins shrugs it off.

Preston gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Watkins really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Preston shoots in and bounces Watkins off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Watkins holds on and takes a little breather.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Preston tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Watkins is trying to push Preston away but Preston has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Preston tries to pull guard but Watkins forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Preston takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Watkins is trying to break the clinch but Preston is controlling him.

Preston works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Watkins controls Preston momentarily but Preston frees himself.
Preston pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Watkins is keeping the position for now.
Watkins lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Preston !

Watkins is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Preston is surviving well by controlling Watkins's body position as best he can.
Watkins throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Preston because Watkins loaded up on that one.

Watkins is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Preston has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Preston !

Preston thuds his right hand into Watkins's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Preston blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Preston has Watkins pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Preston pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Watkins tumbling to the mat - Preston dives into Watkins's guard.

Dean Preston comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Preston has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
