Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Housimar Palhares (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Demian Maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Leandro Rodrigues and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maia shoots for a takedown but Palhares saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Maia tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Maia tries to close the distance and clinch up but Palhares swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Horrible takedown by Maia or perhaps it was just good defense by Palhares which made him look bad.
Palhares changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Maia looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Maia misses with a strike from the bottom.
Maia tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Maia throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.

Maia is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Palhares's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Palhares's back!

Maia had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Palhares is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Maia Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Palhares's back instead.
Maia is trying to stick to Palhares's back but Palhares is turning into Maia. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Maia's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Palhares.

Maia shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Maia has control of Palhares's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Palhares regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Palhares is looking to improve his position but Maia isn't that keen on the idea.

Maia is working for a guillotine from mount but Palhares frees his head quite easily.
Maia is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Palhares has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Palhares!

Palhares drops back, looking for a kneebar! Maia looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Maia looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Maia!
Maia fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Palhares takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Maia is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Palhares knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Maia tries to score with some ground and pound. Palhares controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Palhares is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Maia looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Maia has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Palhares to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Maia is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Palhares pulls down on the head and he's put Maia to sleep! This one is all over!
