Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Blair Sykes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gople Pokak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Blair Sykes has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Blair Sykes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gople Pokak!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Alexandre Firmino and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pokak drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Sykes could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Pokak trying to control but Sykes is working from the bottom.
Pokak is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Pokak controlling from the top position.

Gople Pokak has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Pokak clinches up with Sykes and pushes him back against the cage.

Sykes has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Pokak uses from the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pokak trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Pokak accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Pokak gets to his feet. Sykes looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Sykes throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Pokak tries to stand but Sykes is controlling from the bottom.
Sykes wants to sweep here but Pokak controlling him for the moment.
Pokak missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Pokak must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Gople Pokak wasn't active enough on the ground.

Pokak decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Pokak is keen to just control but Sykes is a slippery customer.
Pokak tries to stand but can't do so whilst Sykes controls his leg.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Gople Pokak wasn't active enough on the ground.

Sykes darts in and clinches Pokak up against the cage.

Sykes has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Pokak uses from the top position.

Sykes tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Sykes has a closed guard, preventing Pokak from standing up.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Pokak throwing strikes but missing.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Pokak drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Sykes manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Pokak has Sykes in his guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Pokak closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Sykes did well to prevent Pokak getting side control.
Sykes tries to roll over but Pokak keeps him under control.

Pokak is looking for a kimura here.
Pokak stalling away here and it's allowed Sykes to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Sykes is striking off his back. Pokak thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.
Sykes on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pokak with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Let's hope that Pokak has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Pokak really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sykes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Pokak tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Sykes.
Gople Pokak has got the better of the ground game so far.
Pokak not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Pokak decides to return to a standing position.

Pokak closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Sykes did well to prevent Pokak getting side control.
Pokak is breathing heavily.
Sykes trying to control from the bottom.
Sykes flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Pokak tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Pokak lands with a punch from half guard.
Sykes misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Sykes wants to control but Pokak is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Pokak is just content to waste time from the top position. Sykes takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Sykes is trying to control the position but Pokak postures up.

Pokak not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Pokak drives through and clinches with Sykes against the cage.

Pokak tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Pokak is looking to sweep but instead, Sykes has passed into half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Sykes lands with a punch from half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gople Pokak showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Pokak swats away the attempt to clinch by Sykes.

Pokak gets a takedown into half guard.
Sykes is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Sykes might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Pokak trying to control the action but Sykes is working from the bottom.
Sykes tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Pokak is pressing down on Sykes's thigh, looking to free his foot. Sykes is holding on for now.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Sykes wants to get back to full guard.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Gople Pokak hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Pokak gets a takedown into half guard.
Pokak tries to pass the half guard into mount. Sykes knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Pokak takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pokak wants to take a breather but Sykes is having none of it.

Pokak is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Pokak is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Sykes defends it well.

Sykes works his way to full guard. Good work.
Sykes thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Pokak wanted to stand there but Sykes had control of the position.
Sykes is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Sykes looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Sykes controls Pokak momentarily but Pokak frees himself.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Blair Sykes just wasn't active enough.

Pokak shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Sykes is trying to defend but Pokak finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Sykes moves into full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Gople Pokak comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Pokak has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
