PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Pebble Braithweight (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Hawk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Braithweight comes to the cage accompanied by 300 violin. Hawk has chosen Everytime I Die as his entrance music. Mike Hawk has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Pebble Braithweight!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Mike Hawk!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Daniel Bishop and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hawk shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Braithweight is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Braithweight keeping moving, preventing Hawk from controlling successfully.

Hawk thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Braithweight working a defensive guard here.

Braithweight working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Hawk has passed into half guard!
Hawk wants to pass the guard but Braithweight is defending well.
Braithweight is refusing to be controlled, as Hawk sits in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hawk missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Braithweight is trying to get back to full guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Braithweight has a takedown stuffed.
Hawk looks to land a left hand but Braithweight moved out of range nicely.
Braithweight keeps the fight on the outside.
Hawk takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Hawk takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
A big right from Braithweight misses.

Hawk looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Hawk throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Hawk is trying to control the action in half guard but Braithweight is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Hawk looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Braithweight trying to control but Hawk postures up.

Hawk prevents Braithweight from improving his position.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Hawk wants to clinch.
The fighters circle momentarily. Braithweight darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Braithweight looks to land a right hand but Hawk moved out of range.

Hawk shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Hawk was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Braithweight is breathing heavily.

Braithweight keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Hawk is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Braithweight is surviving well by controlling Hawk's body position as best he can.
Braithweight tries to improve his position but instead Hawk has taken his back!
Braithweight is trying to break free.
Braithweight prevents Hawk from getting a body triangle.
Hawk is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Braithweight tries to escape but Hawk has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Hawk trying to control momentarily.
You can see the frustration on Braithweight's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Hawk is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Braithweight defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Braithweight manages to reverse the position and now he's in Hawk's guard. Nice work there by Braithweight.
Braithweight postures up.
Hawk wants to sweep but no luck.

Hawk looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Braithweight is looking to work some ground and pound but Hawk has wrist control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Hawk dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Braithweight lands with a cross.
Hawk moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Braithweight throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Hawk misses with a takedown attempt

and Braithweight counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Hawk!
Braithweight prevents Hawk from getting the reversal.
Hawk is squirming around, avoiding Braithweight's attempts to control the action.
Hawk is trying desperately to improve position.
Braithweight trying to control but Hawk is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Braithweight in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.

Hawk tries to hold on but Braithweight postures up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Braithweight with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Braithweight wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.
Hawk is trying to escape the mount.

Braithweight jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Hawk manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Hawk manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Braithweight looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Hawk wants to control but Braithweight is keeping busy.
Hawk tries to roll over but Braithweight keeps him under control.

Hawk is defending against the submission attempts here by Braithweight.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Hawk shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Braithweight's guard.
Braithweight is trying to control the position but Hawk postures up.

Braithweight is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Hawk can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Braithweight is working for a guillotine from mount but Hawk frees his head quite easily.
Hawk regains half guard.
Braithweight uses his free foot to push down on Hawk's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Hawk.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pebble Braithweight dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

and Hawk counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Braithweight working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hawk doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hawk manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Hawk sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Braithweight's guard.
Braithweight misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Hawk in particular looking to stall.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Braithweight on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Braithweight is looking for a sweep. Hawk is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Hawk passes to full mount!
Hawk looking to control and managing it successfully.
Braithweight tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Braithweight wants to hold on but Hawk pushes him away.

Hawk get's back to his feet.

Hawk scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Hawk is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Braithweight is just riding it out for now. Hawk eventually gives up the hold.
Braithweight works his way to full guard. Good work.

Braithweight keeping moving, preventing Hawk from controlling successfully.

Braithweight throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Braithweight escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hawk gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Hawk not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Hawk wants to control from the top but Braithweight keeps moving.
Hawk looking to pass the guard.

Hawk works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Hawk is working for a kimura but Braithweight is defending it quite comfortably.
Braithweight makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Braithweight.

Hawk drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hawk jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Braithweight tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Braithweight is looking for a triangle here but Hawk uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Braithweight is looking to regain half guard here but Hawk keeps moving and retains side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Braithweight gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Hawk working for a submission but Braithweight is keeping him at bay.
Hawk controlling the position easily from mount.
Hawk throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Braithweight because Hawk loaded up on that one.
Braithweight tries to reverse the position but Hawk maintains control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mike Hawk comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Hawk has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
