PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Paulsen Grickrod (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leo Vellucci (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Albert Achterberg and Paulsen Ambrosius.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vellucci lands a two punch combo.
Vellucci wants to clinch up but Grickrod keeps it at a distance.
Vellucci doesn't manage to clinch there - Grickrod circles away.
Grickrod swings for the body but Vellucci moves out of range.
Good shot there by Vellucci.
Vellucci scores with a one two! Grickrod had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Vellucci's corner calls for a 1-2. Vellucci obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Vellucci is looking to clinch.
Vellucci fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Grickrod has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Grickrod decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Grickrod is taking a breather. Vellucci says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Grickrod throwing shots but Vellucci is blocking nicely.
Vellucci is looking for a sweep. Grickrod is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Grickrod lands a nice short elbow.

Vellucci is staying active underneath Grickrod, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Grickrod is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Vellucci doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Grickrod.
Grickrod is trying to control. Vellucci wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Grickrod has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Grickrod is looking to work some ground and pound but Vellucci has wrist control.
Grickrod makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Grickrod wants to control from the top but Vellucci keeps moving.
Vellucci utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Grickrod's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Grickrod throws an elbow that misses. Vellucci uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Grickrod's guard. Nice move by Vellucci!
Grickrod lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Vellucci!
Grickrod lands a nice shot to the head.
Vellucci is squirming around, avoiding Grickrod's attempts to control the action.

Poor strikes thrown by Grickrod there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Vellucci wants to hold on but Grickrod pushes him away.
Vellucci is working to get back to half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Grickrod thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Paulsen Grickrod will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Grickrod throws a big shot that misses.
Vellucci feints and then cracks Grickrod's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Grickrod down.
Grickrod missing with a left hand there. Vellucci was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Vellucci bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Grickrod's head.
Vellucci scores with a head kick. Grickrod tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Vellucci connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Grickrod is rocked!
Grickrod throws a shot from downtown. Vellucci moves away and avoids it.
Nice straight punches there by Vellucci. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Vellucci.
Grickrod's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Vellucci connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Grickrod scrambles back to his feet.
Oh Grickrod is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Vellucci is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Vellucci has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.
Grickrod walks into a straight right hand from Vellucci.

Vellucci lands with a thumping leg kick.
Grickrod seems to have got his legs back now.
Vellucci tries to clinch up.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Vellucci, right into the meat.
Grickrod swings for the body but Vellucci moves out of range.

Vellucci lands a big head kick that sends Grickrod tumbling to the mat! Vellucci takes a step backwards and waves Grickrod back to his feet - he wants the finish!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Vellucci slaps away a takedown attempt from Grickrod, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Grickrod takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Vellucci plants his feet and throws a 3 punch combo. Miss, miss, boom! The third punch, a big right hook, connects right on the temple and drops Grickrod to the mat, unconscious! This fight is all over! Grickrod just couldn't keep out of the way of the whole flurry of punches!
