PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Boyce Salazar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Someweed Forphelas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Boyce Salazar has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Boyce Salazar seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Boyce Salazar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Someweed Forphelas!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Micheangelo Fripello and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Salazar throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Forphelas's waist but Forphelas gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Salazar off to one side.
Salazar tries for a takedown but Forphelas sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Salazar fails with the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Boyce Salazar. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Forphelas throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Salazar was covering up waiting for the punch and Forphelas finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Forphelas wants to stand and escape but instead Salazar has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Salazar is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Salazar stands and steps away. Forphelas gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Forphelas shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Forphelas was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Forphelas wants to lay and pray for a moment but Salazar keeps working.
Salazar is pushing Forphelas's head away, looking to escape. Forphelas manages to hold on to the position though.

Salazar is trying to control Forphelas's posture but Forphelas avoids it.
Salazar dodges the ground and pound from Forphelas.
Forphelas misses with the ground and pound.
Forphelas throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Forphelas tries to score with some ground and pound. Salazar controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
The referee asks Forphelas politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Forphelas prefers to stall for the moment though.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Forphelas wants to control but Salazar is keeping him busy.

Forphelas tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Forphelas is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Salazar knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Forphelas thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
A lull in the action here as Forphelas stalls from top position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Forphelas throws a strike aimed at the side of Salazar's head but Salazar avoids it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Someweed Forphelas dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Salazar throws a big shot that misses.
Salazar tries to close the distance and clinch up but Forphelas swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Forphelas shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Salazar napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Forphelas laying and praying for a moment but Salazar takes advantage and regains half guard.
Salazar is trying to stand up here but Forphelas is controlling him well.
Forphelas not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Forphelas decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Salazar tries to pull guard but Forphelas forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Forphelas has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Salazar is trying to keep an underhook but Forphelas manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Salazar is trying to maintain the position but Forphelas is very close to passing his half guard.
Forphelas not doing much here.

Forphelas is looking to advance position but Salazar won't allow it.
Salazar wants to improve his position but Forphelas is controlling well.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Someweed Forphelas wasn't active enough on the ground.
Forphelas throws out a leg kick but Salazar moves out of range and Forphelas only half commits.
Forphelas tries to close the distance and clinch but Salazar swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Forphelas's jab looks to have found its range, popping Salazar under the eye.


It looks like Boyce Salazar has been cut.
A head kick misses from Salazar.
Salazar closes this distance looking for a takedown but Forphelas circles away.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Salazar swats away the attempt to clinch by Forphelas.
Forphelas lands a jab to the head.

Forphelas decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Forphelas throws a strike but Salazar avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Forphelas's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Forphelas postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Salazar to stand up.
Salazar throws a sloppy head kick and Forphelas moves out of range easily.

Forphelas gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Forphelas turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Forphelas creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Salazar sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Salazar is being controlled here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Forphelas decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Forphelas throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Someweed Forphelas showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Boyce Salazar's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Salazar is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Even with his hooks in, Forphelas manages to miss with strikes from the back.

Forphelas throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Forphelas controlling the positon.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Salazar covering up well under a series of strikes from Forphelas.
Forphelas misses with a punch to the head.

Forphelas is not going to allow Salazar to sit and survive in this position.

Forphelas is persistently looking for the submission but Salazar is defending it well.
Forphelas biding his time, looking for the opening.
Salazar is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

Forphelas is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.

Forphelas is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Salazar is defending well though. Forphelas let's go of the attempt for now.

Forphelas is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Forphelas has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Well Forphelas has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
