The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hieron fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Drake tries to clinch up.
Drake tries to clinch up but Hieron circles away and keeps his distance.
Drake is looking to clinch.
Drake looks to land a combination but Hieron avoids it well.
Hieron scores with a kick to the midsection.
Drake wants to clinch up but Hieron keeps it at a distance.
Hieron shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Drake as he avoids it easily.

Hieron closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Drake to the mat! Drake manages to get full guard.

Hieron stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Drake swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Drake is working an open guard so Hieron takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Hieron throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Hieron jumps guard but Drake stands there with Hieron around his waist. Hieron gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Drake tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Drake stalling in the clinch but Hieron improves position.
Hieron tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Eric Drake has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jay Hieron.
Hieron wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Hieron ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Hieron no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hieron is pulling down on Drake's head. It's preventing any offense from Drake, at least for the moment.

Hieron bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Drake's guard.

Hieron decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Drake, up you get!
Hieron misses with a few strikes there.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Drake looks to clinch

and Hieron holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Drake misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Hieron.
Hieron jumps guard but Drake stands there with Hieron around his waist. Hieron gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Hieron has hold of one of Drake's legs. Drake is fighting the takedown attempt but Hieron gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Drake throws a nice looking combination but Hieron bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

and Hieron counters with a nice double leg into side control. Drake won't be happy with that.
Hieron just content to control the position.
Drake is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Hieron prevents Drake from escaping the position.
Drake is letting Hieron control him for a moment.
Drake takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Hieron takes a little break here. Drake wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Hieron looks up at the clock and then as Drake takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Hieron smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Drake pushes Hieron away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Hieron gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Drake gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Hieron postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Drake looks a forlorn figure.

Hieron lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Hieron cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hieron tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Hieron gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Horrible takedown by Hieron or perhaps it was just good defense by Drake which made him look bad.
Eric Drake has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
