PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between German Dolgopolov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chuck Liddell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Liddell is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: It's Dark and Hell Is Hot. Chuck Liddell is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, German Dolgopolov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 33 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Chuck Liddell!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Daniel Blasius and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dolgopolov misses with the combination.
Dolgopolov throws a right and a left that both miss.
Liddell thumps Dolgopolov with a low kick.
Dolgopolov throws a nice looking combination but Liddell bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
German Dolgopolov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Liddell shoots in and gets a takedown into Dolgopolov's guard.
Liddell sitting in guard here, content to control.
Liddell passes Dolgopolov's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Liddell is controlling the pace.
Dolgopolov is in trouble now - Liddell has advanced to mount!
Dolgopolov is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Dark Horse MMA Academy that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Liddell connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Liddell controlling the pace for now.
It looks like Liddell might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Dolgopolov is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Liddell controlling his opponent.
Dolgopolov is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Liddell sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Dolgopolov knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Liddell on the ground.

Chuck Liddell has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Dolgopolov blocks a jab.
Dolgopolov lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!


It looks like Chuck Liddell has been cut.
Liddell is looking to clinch but Dolgopolov is avoiding it.
Some wild striking there from Dolgopolov.
Dolgopolov throws a left and a right that both miss
and Liddell counters with a good low kick that Dolgopolov was not able to check.
Dolgopolov is breathing heavily.
Liddell chopping away at his opponent's legs.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Liddell moves into the clinch.

Liddell breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Liddell closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Dolgopolov tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Liddell avoids it.
Liddell lands an elbow that stopped Dolgopolov in his tracks for a moment.
Dolgopolov fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Liddell is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Liddell blocking some punches.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Liddell crunches a lovely knee into Dolgopolov's ribcage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chuck Liddell dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Chuck Liddell's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Dolgopolov throws a combination that misses
and Liddell counters with a nice leg kick.
Dolgopolov falls off balance throwing a combination
and Liddell makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Dolgopolov throws a lazy uppercut
and Liddell counters with a slapping leg kick.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Liddell.

Dolgopolov gets caught napping as Liddell dives in and scores a takedown. Dolgopolov manages to retain guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Liddell is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Liddell forces his way into half guard.
Chuck Liddell has got the better of the ground game so far.
Liddell trying to control the pace.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Liddell uses his free foot to push down on Dolgopolov's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Dolgopolov.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Liddell lands with some strikes.

Liddell wants to finish this one by submission but Dolgopolov is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Liddell.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Dolgopolov has left one of his arms exposed and Liddell doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Dolgopolov screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Chuck Liddell!
