The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Donaldson doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Samsonov counters with a single leg into guard. Donaldson didn't expect that.
Samsonov is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Samsonov won't allow Donaldson to sweep him here.

Samsonov is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Donaldson wants to stand and escape but Samsonov is having none of it.
Donaldson controls Samsonov momentarily but Samsonov frees himself.
Donaldson is really struggling to control Samsonov but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Samsonov slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

and Samsonov counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

and Samsonov counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Donaldson!

Samsonov is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Donaldson knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Samsonov swings around for an armbar but Donaldson sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Samsonov's guard.
