PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Nicholas Weichel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Anderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Anderson's choice of entrance music: The Prince. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Nicholas Weichel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, David Anderson!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Alexandre Firmino and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Weichel shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Anderson manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Weichel connects with a couple of short punches.

Weichel thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Weichel postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Anderson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Weichel. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Weichel is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Weichel fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Anderson sprawls well initially but Weichel persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Weichel seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Weichel seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Anderson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Weichel is stalling here. Anderson is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Weichel seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Anderson has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Weichel has his foot on Anderson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Anderson works his way back into a safe position though.

Weichel has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Weichel escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Anderson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Anderson wants to pass the guard but Weichel is keeping the position.

Weichel tries to score a power double leg takedown but Anderson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Weichel somewhat.

Anderson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Anderson is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Weichel is looking for a sweep. Anderson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Weichel holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

Weichel is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Anderson's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Anderson's back!

Weichel seems to be going for a rear naked choke. He has an arm under Anderson's chin but Anderson turns very nicely into Weichel's guard. Good BJJ skills being displayed there by Anderson.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Weichel holds on and takes a little breather.
Nicholas Weichel overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Anderson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
