PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Joshua Drum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Honza Kucera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Drum's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Emiliana Torrini - Jungle Drum. Honza Kucera acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Joshua Drum!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Honza Kucera!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Winston Alpacca and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kucera shoots in for a takedown but Drum shows good takedown defense.
Drum connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Kucera walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Drum lands a jab.
No joy there for Drum, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Drum stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Drum wants it to stay on the feet.
Kucera fails with a takedown attempt.
Joshua Drum has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Honza Kucera.
Kucera tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Drum swivels and escapes.
Kucera's coach down at Island Top Team was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Kucera's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Drum lands an overhand right.

Drum moves into the clinch.
Drum is pressed up against the cage. Kucera has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Drum down to the mat. Drum avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Kucera misses the shot to the body.
Drum cracks Kucera with a right hand to the side of the head.
Drum throws out a loose jab but Kucera uses good head movement to avoid it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Drum scores with a one two! Kucera had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Drum jabs Kucera right on the nose. Kucera blinks but takes it well.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kucera shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Drum pinned against the cage. Drum gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Drum rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Kucera moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Kucera tries for a takedown but Drum sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Joshua Drum is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Drum throws a combination. Kucera tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Drum lands a jab to the nose.
Kucera fails to land the takedown.
Kucera shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Drum pinned against the cage. Drum gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Drum connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Kucera's hands.
Kucera is trying desperately to land a takedown but Drum is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Kucera.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kucera shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Drum counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Drum tries to clinch up but Kucera circles away and keeps his distance.
Kucera tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Drum swivels and escapes.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Nice straight punches there by Drum. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Drum.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kucera misses with a takedown attempt - Drum sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

and Drum counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Honza Kucera is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Kucera shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Drum as he avoids it easily.
Drum scores with a nice strike.
Drum keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Joshua Drum has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Honza Kucera.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Drum!
Kucera shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Drum as he avoids it easily.

Kucera shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Drum but Drum pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Drum scores with a jab to the jaw.
Horrible takedown by Kucera or perhaps it was just good defense by Drum which made him look bad.
Kucera fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Drum avoids it really well and circles away.
Drum moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Drum bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Kucera's head.
Kucera on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Joshua Drum is winning the standup battle so far.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Kucera shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Kucera misses with a takedown
and Drum cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Nice shot lands for Drum.
Kucera shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Kucera doesn't succeed with the takedown
letting Drum counter with a right hand.
Nice shot lands for Drum.
Kucera shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Drum as he jumps to the side.

Drum gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Drum lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Kucera is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Drum is defending well.
I was talking to Drum's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Drum is trying to break free.
Kucera is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Drum pulls him back up using the underhooks.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Drum lands a left hand that snaps the head of Kucera backwards.
Drum wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Drum.
Kucera is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Drum to keep the fight standing.
Drum scores with an uppercut up the middle.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kucera is trying to drag Drum to the mat but Drum just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Drum.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joshua Drum dominated that second round.
That's time! Drum's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Kucera feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Kucera drops back looking for a leg! Drum is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Drum manages to kick Kucera off! Kucera jumps back into Drum's guard.
Kucera pushes down on Drum's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Kucera is keen to just control but Drum is a slippery customer.

Kucera is looking for a kimura but Drum is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kucera to get the leverage.
Drum is trying to control but can't.
Kucera looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Kucera is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Kucera works his way into full mount!

Drum defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Kucera.

Kucera has hold of Drum's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Drum manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Drum is looking to improve his position but Kucera isn't that keen on the idea.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Kucera working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Drum wants to hold on but Kucera pushes him away.
Kucera trying to control but Drum is having none of it.
Kucera is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Kucera might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Drum haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Kucera is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Drum is forced to tap! Great finish!
