PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Buster Buckman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Barnett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Buckman comes to the cage accompanied by Wanna Be a Balla-Lil Troy. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Matt Barnett!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Matheus Silva and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barnett blocks a head kick by Buckman.
Buckman leaves Barnett with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Buckman tries to keep at a distance but Barnett has taken the fight into the clinch.

Barnett gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Barnett in particular looking to stall.
Barnett throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Barnett content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Matt Barnett wasn't active enough on the ground.

It looks like Buster Buckman has been cut.

and Barnett counters with a takedown into side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Let's hope that Barnett has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Buckman is not content to let Barnett control the position.
Well, if Barnett is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Buckman throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Barnett lands a jab-cross combination.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Barnett. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Barnett misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Buckman.

Buckman throws a sloppy head kick and Barnett moves out of range easily.
Barnett shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Buckman as he avoids it easily.
Barnett looks to score with a jab to the body but Buckman is just out of range.
Barnett dives in and grabs Buckman's left leg, looking for a takedown. Buckman pushes down on Barnett's head and hops out.

Barnett bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Buckman's head.

Barnett shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Buckman pinned against the cage. Buckman gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.

Barnett changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Buckman fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Barnett drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Barnett prevents Buckman from getting back to his feet.
Barnett distracts Buckman with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Barnett stays in close to Buckman's body and controls the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Matt Barnett showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Barnett swings around for an armbar but Buckman sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Barnett's guard.

Barnett has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Buckman can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Buckman wants to control from the top but Barnett keeps moving.

Barnett is pulling down on Buckman's head. It's preventing any offense from Buckman, at least for the moment.
Buckman knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Barnett on the ground.

Buckman decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Barnett, up you get!

Barnett is trying to trip Buckman. He has hold of a leg but Buckman is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Barnett persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Barnett stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Buckman swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Barnett not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Buster Buckman has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Buckman takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

and Buckman counters with a head kick that drops Barnett to the mat! Barnett scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!

Barnett throws a right and a left that Buckman avoids nicely.
Barnett throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Barnett throws out a loose jab but Buckman uses good head movement to avoid it.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Buckman takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.


Buster Buckman's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Nice sprawl there from Buckman as Barnett shoots in.

Matt Barnett comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Barnett winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Matt Barnett decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
