PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Leo Van Bruinier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Abraham Rokou (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Van Bruinier comes to the ring accompanied by Girlfrind. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Paul Aken and Patrick Alders.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Van Bruinier throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Van Bruinier lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Rokou backs up against the ropes.
Rokou throws a nice looking combination but Van Bruinier bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Van Bruinier thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Rokou if he has to take too many more of those.
Van Bruinier ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Rokou jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Rokou shoots in and drives through. Van Bruinier sprawls well.
Van Bruinier jabs Rokou to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Van Bruinier tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Rokou defends well and Van Bruinier ends up having to push Rokou into the ropes where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Van Bruinier is working for takedown but Rokou is calmly controlling the position for now.
Rokou tries to work over Van Bruinier's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Rokou breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Rokou's coach down at Titan Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Rokou's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Rokou shoots for a double leg takedown but Van Bruinier sprawls well. He's pushed Rokou's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Rokou wants to clinch up but Van Bruinier keeps it at a distance.
Rokou throws a sloppy head kick and Van Bruinier moves out of range easily.

Rokou shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Van Bruinier pinned against the ropes. Van Bruinier gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Rokou seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Rokou is stalling here. Van Bruinier is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Rokou seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Van Bruinier has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Van Bruinier is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Rokou is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Rokou shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Rokou will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Rokou throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Van Bruinier's waist but Van Bruinier gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Rokou off to one side.

Rokou has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Van Bruinier is working away from the top position though.

Rokou really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Van Bruinier. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Rokou manages to reverse the position and now he's in Van Bruinier's guard. Nice work there by Rokou.

Van Bruinier has his foot on Rokou's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rokou works his way back into a safe position though.
Van Bruinier pulls Rokou in close to his closed guard and prevents Rokou from doing any damage or advancing position.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rokou accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Abraham Rokou hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Van Bruinier moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Van Bruinier tries to bum rush Rokou with a series of wild strikes but Rokou uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Rokou closes this distance looking for a takedown but Van Bruinier circles away.

Rokou changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Van Bruinier tries to avoid it but Rokou manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Van Bruinier to the ground. Van Bruinier escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
