PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Taz Brandon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Simon Frazier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brandon's entrance music is Ace Of Spades. A fine choice. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Simon Frazier was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Taz Brandon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Simon Frazier!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Frazier takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Brandon throws a leg kick which misses Frazier's front leg but catches the back leg as Frazier tries to avoid it.
Brandon fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Brandon misses with the combination.

Brandon closes the distance and clinches.
Brandon prevents the takedown attempt.

Frazier ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Frazier no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Frazier told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Frazier escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Brandon gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Frazier can do anything to dispel that myth.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Taz Brandon.
Frazier looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Frazier dodges the punch combination from Brandon.
Brandon looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Brandon throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Frazier.
Frazier shoots in for a double leg but Brandon sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That kick from Brandon tenderised Frazier's leg. Frazier is trying to keep his angry face on.
Brandon tries to close the distance and clinch but Frazier swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Frazier gets caught flat footed, as Brandon shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Frazier has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Frazier lands a decent shot there.
Frazier is pulling down on Brandon's head. It's preventing any offense from Brandon, at least for the moment.
Frazier looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Brandon wants to control from the top but Frazier keeps moving.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Taz Brandon wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Brandon moves into range and clinches up with Frazier.

Frazier works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Brandon wants to sweep here but Frazier controlling him for the moment.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Frazier tries to free his leg and advance position but Brandon is retaining full guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Taz Brandon will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Brandon swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Brandon is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Brandon throws a right hand that Frazier ducks under and follows up with a left that Frazier also avoids with ease.
Brandon shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Frazier pinned against the cage. Frazier gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Frazier fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Brandon to the ground. Frazier is now in Brandon's guard.
Brandon looking for a sweep. Not yet Brandon, not yet.

Frazier throws a big elbow that misses.

Frazier has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Brandon is proving hard to escape from.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Brandon not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Simon Frazier has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Brandon shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Frazier sprawls well. Frazier wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Brandon gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Taz Brandon. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Crunch! Brandon slams his shin into Frazier's torso.

Frazier closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Frazier shoots in but Brandon avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Frazier shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Brandon napping and manages to drive through into side control!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Brandon tries to bench press Frazier off him but Frazier keeps the position.

Brandon is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Brandon is trying to control but can't.
Frazier is looking to take a break and control but Brandon is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Still in half guard, Frazier seems content to control.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Simon Frazier wasn't active enough on the ground.
Frazier pivots, looking for a leg kick but Brandon is out of range and Frazier settles back down.

Frazier blocks a head kick by Brandon.
Brandon lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Brandon.

Frazier shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Brandon manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Simon Frazier showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Frazier throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Brandon was covering up waiting for the punch and Frazier finishes the takedown easily into guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Frazier instigates a clinch.

Brandon has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Frazier can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Brandon is working an open guard so Frazier takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Frazier changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Brandon looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Frazier counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Frazier is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Brandon gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Brandon wants to stall.

And that's the end of the fight!
Simon Frazier comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Frazier has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
