PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dominic Hoover (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Scooter Colberg (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hoover's entrance music is Godsmack - I Stand Alone. A fine choice. Scooter Colberg has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Dominic Hoover!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Scooter Colberg!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Taro Takaoka and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hoover comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Colberg looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Hoover is fending him off so far but Colberg persists. Nope, Hoover circles away and we're back to standing.
Colberg throws a hook to the side of Hoover's head but Hoover sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Hoover connects with a single shot there.
Hoover keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Colberg gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Hoover gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Colberg.
Colberg goes for a takedown in the clinch but Hoover prevents it.
Dominic Hoover has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Scooter Colberg.
Hoover wants to break free but Colberg has control.

Colberg wants the takedown. Hoover is fighting it off but Colberg persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Hoover's guard against the ropes.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Colberg stays in close to Hoover's body and controls the position.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Hoover wants to get back to his feet but Colberg is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Colberg lands a couple of elbows.
Colberg throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Hoover works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Colberg postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Colberg keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Hoover's head.

Colberg is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Hoover knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Colberg on the ground.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Scooter Colberg dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Hoover scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Colberg doesn't seem bothered though.

Colberg gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Hoover.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Hoover, as that shot connected.
The fighters circling - Colberg throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Colberg throws a shot from downtown. Hoover moves away and avoids it.
Colberg misses with a wild combination.
Hoover lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Hoover connects with a good right hand that stumbles Colberg. Colberg circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Hoover dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Hoover connects with the punch.
Hoover punishes Colberg's body with a nice straight punch.

Colberg closes the distance and pushes Hoover back into the ropes.
Colberg is working for a takedown up against the ropes. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Hoover prevents a takedown attempt there.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Colberg is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Hoover is defending well.

Hoover is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Colberg scores with a couple of nice shots.
Colberg is taking a breather. Hoover says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Colberg seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Colberg winds up and cracks Hoover with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Colberg thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Hoover avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Colberg.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Colberg has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Scooter Colberg showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Colberg thows a huge punch but Hoover dodges it nicely.

Colberg takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Colberg lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Colberg connects with a nice short shot to Hoover's temple.

Colberg decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Colberg throws out a loose jab but Hoover uses good head movement to avoid it.
Hoover needs to keep his hands up - Colberg had a free shot at his head there.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Hoover sizes up Colberg with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Hoover throws a right hand that Colberg ducks under and follows up with a left that Colberg also avoids with ease.
Hoover lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Colberg at a distance.

Hoover fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Dominic Hoover is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Hoover scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
The crowd cheers as Hoover lands an impressive looking overhand right. Colberg doesn't seem phased though.
Hoover throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Colberg stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Colberg drives through and clinches with Hoover against the ropes.
Colberg tries to pull guard but Hoover holds him up against the ropes and eventually Colberg drops back down to his feet.
Colberg drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Hoover gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Colberg moves into range and clinches up with Hoover.

Colberg is looking to work some ground and pound but Hoover has wrist control.
Colberg distracts Hoover with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hoover can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Colberg controls the pace.
Colberg throws a big right hand that misses.
Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - a gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Scooter Colberg hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Colberg is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Hoover.
