The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kraus misses with a wild combination.
Kraus dives in and grabs Hughes's left leg, looking for a takedown. Hughes pushes down on Kraus's head and hops out.
Kraus fails with the takedown.
Kraus will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pascal Kraus. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hughes misses with a double jab.
Hughes tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Kraus manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

and Kraus counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Kraus.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Kraus drops back looking for a leg! Hughes is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hughes manages to kick Kraus off! Kraus jumps back into Hughes's guard.

Kraus seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Hughes for as long as he can get away with.

Pascal Kraus has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Hughes is looking to clinch.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Kraus seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Kraus stands and steps away. Hughes gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Hughes defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Kraus.
Kraus shoots in but no luck this time.

Kraus decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Kraus is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Kraus is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Hughes looks calm but he's in trouble here. Kraus gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Hughes is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Kraus lets go of the hold and Hughes can pop his arm back in it's socket.
