Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alexandre Lima (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cain Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Velasquez has chosen dos santos vs velasquez as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cain Velasquez!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Joseph Jones and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Velasquez shoots in looking for a takedown but Lima manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Velasquez's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Velasquez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Lima sprawls well. Lima wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Velasquez gets slowly back to his feet.

Lima darts in and clinches Velasquez up against the cage.
Velasquez tries for a takedown but Lima manages to get underhooks.
Alexandre Lima has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cain Velasquez.

Velasquez is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Lima is just riding it out for now. Velasquez eventually gives up the hold.

Lima is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Velasquez gets his way!

Lima is covering up but some of the strikes from Velasquez are getting through and doing damage.

Velasquez keeps control of the position easily here as Lima tries to buck him off.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Velasquez goes for a double leg but Lima avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Lima continues to drive forward.
Lima is looking for a takedown.
Velasquez is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Lima is defending well for now.
Lima is looking to take this one to the mat.

Velasquez pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Some bone on bone action there as Lima checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Velasquez dives in and grabs Lima's left leg, looking for a takedown. Lima pushes down on Velasquez's head and hops out.
Lima moves in looking to clinch but Velasquez pushes him off.
Velasquez tries to clinch but Lima is having none of it.
Velasquez slips a jab and a cross from Lima.

Velasquez is trying to control but can't.

Lima is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Velasquez tries to hold on but Lima postures up.
Velasquez manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Lima is stalling here. Velasquez is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Lima seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Velasquez has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Velasquez is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Lima has escaped the position, nice work there.
Velasquez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Lima keeps working.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lima throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Velasquez. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Lima seems to be working for a kimura but Velasquez defends the submission attempt.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Lima takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

and Velasquez counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

and Velasquez counters by clinching up.
Lima is pressed up against the cage. Velasquez has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Lima down to the mat. Lima avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Lima is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Velasquez is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Lima goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Velasquez rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Lima's guard! Nice work there by Velasquez!

Lima lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Velasquez!

Lima looking to secure an arm triangle but Velasquez defends it well.
