PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jackson Briggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dean Murdoch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Murdoch has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jackson Briggs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Dean Murdoch!
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Michael Johnstone and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Briggs instigates a clinch.
The referee is keeping an eye on Briggs - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Briggs's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Briggs closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Murdoch to the mat! Murdoch manages to get full guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Briggs working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Murdoch's head.
Murdoch can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Briggs controls the pace.
Briggs is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Briggs lands a left and a right that send Murdoch crashing to the mat, dazed. Briggs thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


Murdoch is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Briggs rushes Murdoch and presses him up against the cage.
Murdoch is still on wobbly legs! Can Briggs finish him?

Briggs has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Murdoch clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Briggs is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Murdoch has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Murdoch seems to have recovered his senses.
Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Briggs.
You can see the frustration on Murdoch's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Murdoch turns into Briggs and is now in his guard.
Briggs has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Murdoch wants to control from the top but Briggs keeps moving.
Murdoch throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Briggs works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Briggs wants to sweep here but Murdoch controlling him for the moment.
Murdoch trying to control the position from guard on top but Briggs is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Briggs looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Murdoch puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Murdoch does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Briggs is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Murdoch can't fight it off and eventually Briggs manages to take the fight to the floor. Murdoch looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Briggs shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Murdoch's guard.
