Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Warner Shelton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Anthoney Pettis!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Summer Carpenter and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shelton stuffs the takedown attempt from Pettis. Pettis gets slowly back to his feet.

Pettis clinches with his opponent.
Pettis looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Pettis tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Shelton just stands there and leans against the cage.

Shelton has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Pettis clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
You can see the frustration on Pettis's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Shelton will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Even with his hooks in, Shelton manages to miss with strikes from the back.

Pettis is really stuck here.
Pettis has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
Pettis tries to roll but Shelton sticks to his back.
Pettis just trying to survive but Shelton is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Shelton has the hooks in. Pettis is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Pettis wants to control his opponent's hands but Shelton gets his hands free.

Pettis trying to control the action but Shelton just sinks the hooks in.

Shelton is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Pettis defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Pettis tries to escape but Shelton has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Shelton is not going to allow Pettis to sit and survive in this position.
Pettis rolls, trying to escape but Shelton keeps control of the position.

Pettis holding both Shelton 's hands and preventing any damage.
Pettis turns into Shelton and is now in his guard.
Pettis stands up over Shelton, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Shelton really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Pettis is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Pettis trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Pettis is stalling in the full guard.

Anthoney Pettis has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Pettis is fighting off a takedown attempt but Shelton is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Pettis to the mat. Pettis regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Shelton postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pettis takes a swing at Shelton's ribcage but misses.

Shelton gets tackled into the cage by Pettis. Pettis maintains the clinch.
Shelton tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Pettis's elbow.

Shelton has hold of one of Pettis's legs. Pettis is fighting the takedown attempt but Shelton gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Pettis has his foot on Shelton's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Shelton works his way back into a safe position though.
Shelton has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Shelton got a little sloppy there for a moment and Pettis has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Shelton has managed to get both his arms back between Pettis's legs - danger averted.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Pettis has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Shelton throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Pettis works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Pettis lands a decent punch to the body there.
Pettis is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Pettis has Shelton pulled in close to control his posture.
Anthoney Pettis has got the better of the ground game so far.
Shelton loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Pettis lands a decent shot there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pettis is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Shelton dives into side control.
Pettis is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Shelton's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Shelton is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Pettis is just riding it out for now. Shelton eventually gives up the hold.

Pettis manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Pettis rushes Shelton and presses him up against the cage.
Pettis goes for a takedown in the clinch but Shelton prevents it.
Shelton lands a nice knee to the body.

Shelton has clasped his hands together around Pettis's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Pettis manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Pettis is trying to stand.
Pettis regains full guard. Nicely done.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Pettis is adopting a defensive guard.

Shelton trying to stand up but can't free himself from Pettis's guard.

Pettis is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Shelton defends well.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Pettis is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Shelton has his hands clasped together but Pettis extends and breaks Shelton's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Pettis.
