PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Francis Hampton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Colton Reyes Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Reyes Jr has chosen pain as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Colton Reyes Jr was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Francis Hampton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Colton Reyes Jr!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Yves DeLean and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reyes Jr misses with a head kick.
Reyes Jr misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Reyes Jr throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

and Hampton counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Hampton.
Reyes Jr tries to circle away but Hampton has him pinned against the cage.
Hampton has Reyes Jr pressed against the cage, preventing Reyes Jr from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Reyes Jr escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Reyes Jr swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Hampton counters with a three punch combo that has Reyes Jr backing up. Reyes Jr nods at Hampton to acknowledge the strikes.
Reyes Jr fails to land with a series of punches.
Reyes Jr throws a left and a right that both miss
and Hampton makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Reyes Jr lands with a nice combination. Hampton backs away looking to recover.


It looks like Francis Hampton has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hampton cracks Reyes Jr with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Reyes Jr throws a head kick that misses.
Reyes Jr looks winded!
Reyes Jr swats away the attempt to clinch by Hampton.

Hampton tries to close the distance and clinch up but Reyes Jr swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Reyes Jr tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Reyes Jr throws a sloppy head kick

and Hampton counters by moving into the clinch.
Reyes Jr tries to circle away but Hampton has him pinned against the cage.
Reyes Jr prevents a takedown attempt there.
Hampton is pushing Reyes Jr up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Reyes Jr wants to break free but Hampton has control.

Reyes Jr gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Reyes Jr stops Hampton from standing up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hampton thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Hampton throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Reyes Jr trying to stand up but can't free himself from Hampton's guard.
Hampton looking to hit a scissor sweep but Reyes Jr is one step ahead there.
Reyes Jr loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Hampton throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Hampton utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Reyes Jr looking to sit in guard and control but Hampton gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Reyes Jr looking to control but Hampton passes into half guard.

Hampton looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Reyes Jr is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Colton Reyes Jr dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Francis Hampton's cut.
That's time! Back to the action!


Reyes Jr throws a right and a left that Hampton avoids nicely.

Hampton forces Reyes Jr back against the cage and clinches.
Hampton keeps control of Reyes Jr as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Reyes Jr is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Reyes Jr tries to land knees in the clinch but Hampton avoids the damage to the body.
Hampton wants a takedown.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Reyes Jr pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Reyes Jr throws a sloppy head kick and Hampton moves out of range easily.
No joy there for Reyes Jr, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

and Hampton counters with a takedown into side control.

Hampton working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Reyes Jr can't do much from the bottom here.

Hampton tries for a kimura but Reyes Jr is defending well.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
A control attempt from Reyes Jr but he's now mounted!
Reyes Jr is trying desperately to improve position.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Hampton looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Reyes Jr tries to hold on but Hampton pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Francis Hampton will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Hampton doesn't manage to clinch there - Reyes Jr circles away.
Reyes Jr swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Hampton counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Reyes Jr's guard now.

Francis Hampton has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Reyes Jr misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

and Hampton counters with a good low kick that Reyes Jr was not able to check.
Hampton avoids a kick to the body.
A head kick misses from Reyes Jr.
Reyes Jr takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Reyes Jr throws a nice looking combination but Hampton bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

and Hampton counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Reyes Jr is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Reyes Jr tries to bum rush Hampton with a series of wild strikes but Hampton uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Colton Reyes Jr is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Colton Reyes Jr seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Reyes Jr has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Hampton.
The fight stays on the outside here - Hampton looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Hampton throws a head kick but Reyes Jr moves out of range.

Hampton fails with an attempt to clinch.
Reyes Jr takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Hampton closes the distance and pushes Reyes Jr back into the cage.
Reyes Jr is pressed up against the cage. Hampton has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Reyes Jr down to the mat. Reyes Jr avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Hampton takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
A combination from Reyes Jr does no damage.
Reyes Jr tries a head kick but it misses.

Hampton pushes Reyes Jr up against the cage in a clinch.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hampton stalls.
Reyes Jr wants to get back to striking at distance but Hampton won't allow it.

Reyes Jr has hold of one of Hampton's legs. Hampton is fighting the takedown attempt but Reyes Jr gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Hampton is looking to stand up but Reyes Jr isn't so interested in that idea.
Reyes Jr lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Reyes Jr postures up in Hampton's guard and throws a big left but Hampton blocks it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Reyes Jr is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Francis Hampton.
I think Hampton has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
