PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ben Henley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sergio Garcia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Garcia comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Ensemble of the restless kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Ben Henley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 11 - 2, fighting out of London, Sergio Garcia!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Colin Fotheringham and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Garcia stuns Henley with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Henley has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Henley doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Henley fails with the takedown
and Garcia counters with a right hand to the body.
Henley with a lazy takedown attempt
and Garcia counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Henley shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Garcia as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ben Henley. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Garcia gets caught flat footed, as Henley shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Garcia has control of Henley's left arm, preventing Henley from doing any damage.
Henley lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Henley is looking to work some ground and pound but Garcia has wrist control.

Garcia is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Henley is working Garcia over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Garcia manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Henley tries to pull guard but Garcia forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Garcia has hold of one of Henley's legs. Henley is fighting the takedown attempt but Garcia gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Henley is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Garcia defends well.

Henley had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Garcia defends it easily.

Garcia got a little sloppy there for a moment and Henley has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Garcia has managed to get both his arms back between Henley's legs - danger averted.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Henley working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Garcia doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Garcia manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Garcia keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Henley's head.
Henley throws some shots to the body, keeping his opponent honest.

Garcia makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Garcia trying to control the position from guard on top but Henley is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Henley has his foot on Garcia's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Garcia works his way back into a safe position though.

Henley has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Garcia can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Garcia distracts Henley with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Henley has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Garcia working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Henley's head.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Henley has an active guard here but Garcia has managed to pass into half guard.
Garcia working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Sergio Garcia will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


A lazy left from Garcia finds it's target.
Henley changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Garcia tries to avoid it but Henley manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Garcia to the ground. Garcia escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Henley throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Garcia's waist but Garcia gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Henley off to one side.
A low kick from Henley misses
and Garcia counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Henley shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Garcia counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Henley thinking.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ben Henley. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Henley on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Garcia lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Henley takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Henley takes a jab right on the kisser.
Sergio Garcia seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Garcia changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Garcia dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Garcia smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.


Henley is rocked!
Nice body punch from Garcia.
Oh Henley is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Henley has his takedown stuffed
and Garcia counters with a nice low kick that buckles Henley's knee momentarily.
Henley seems to have got his legs back now.
A big right followed by a crushing left from Garcia knocks Henley out cold! Ouch - that one's going to be featured in highlight reels for years to come!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:21 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Sergio Garcia!
A less than humble Sergio Garcia misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
