PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chad Henderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Carlos jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carlos jr has chosen Jarrid Mendelson - The Ultimate Fighter as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chad Henderson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jose Carlos jr!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Gwen Towbar and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Henderson scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Carlos jr wants to get back to his feet but Henderson drags him back down.

Henderson thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Henderson tries for a kimura but Carlos jr is defending well.

Henderson goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Carlos jr rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Henderson's guard! Nice work there by Carlos jr!

Henderson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Carlos jr gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Henderson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Henderson wants to hit a switch here but Carlos jr passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Henderson there!
Henderson tries to improve his position but instead Carlos jr has taken his back!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Henderson tries to break free.
I would not like to be Henderson right now.
Henderson trying to control but not successfully.
Henderson wants to escape the position.
Carlos jr biding his time, looking for the opening.
Henderson looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Henderson manages to reverse the position and now he's in Carlos jr's guard. Nice work there by Henderson.

Carlos jr pushes Henderson off and gets back to his feet.
Carlos jr swinging wilding here.
Henderson slips a jab and a cross from Carlos jr.
Horrible takedown by Henderson or perhaps it was just good defense by Carlos jr which made him look bad.
Henderson avoids a punch combination nicely.
Carlos jr looks gassed!
Carlos jr will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Carlos jr throws a right and a left that both miss.
Carlos jr fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Henderson looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Carlos jr!
Henderson takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.

Carlos jr fending off the submission attempt from Henderson.

Henderson patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Carlos jr gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Carlos jr really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Henderson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Henderson drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Carlos jr dives on top into guard.

Henderson isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Carlos jr stacks Henderson on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Carlos jr!
Henderson sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Henderson tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Carlos jr has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Henderson is wriggling around trying to escape.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Henderson is working hard here to advance position.
Henderson sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Henderson is trying to get back to full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Henderson makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Henderson.

Henderson is looking for a triangle but Carlos jr pushes his legs off easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Henderson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Carlos jr can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Henderson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Carlos jr must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Henderson goes for an armbar but Carlos jr turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Carlos jr.

Henderson throws his legs up looking for a submission but Carlos jr uses it to pass to side control.
Henderson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Henderson is looking to reverse the position.
Carlos jr takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
You can see the frustration on Henderson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Henderson is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Henderson looking for a guillotine here but Carlos jr defends easily.

Henderson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Carlos jr doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Carlos jr manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Henderson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Henderson is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Henderson is looking to advance position but Carlos jr won't allow it.

Henderson is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Henderson is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Henderson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
