Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bryer McGuire!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Dillan Fox and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Crews with a poor takedown
and McGuire counters with a lovely shot to the body.
McGuire cracks Crews with a good jab.

McGuire throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Crews was covering up waiting for the punch and McGuire finishes the takedown easily into guard.
McGuire pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Crews is keeping the position for now.
Crews keeping moving, preventing McGuire from controlling successfully.
Crews wants to sweep here but McGuire controlling him for the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McGuire tries to free his leg and advance position but Crews is retaining full guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Crews is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. McGuire is aware though and is defending well.

McGuire drops back, looking for a kneebar! Crews looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Crews looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Crews!

McGuire managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Crews.
Crews working the strikes but McGuire uses the opportunity to regain half guard.

Crews is looking for a kimura here.
Crews is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

McGuire is staying active underneath Crews, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Crews passes to side control.
Crews advances to mount.
Crews thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Crews is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. McGuire is in real trouble.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
McGuire can't escape the position.

Crews working for a choke but McGuire is defending well.
I really don't envy McGuire right now.

McGuire is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
McGuire is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
Crews has the hooks in. McGuire is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Crews looking for the choke but no joy.
Crews throws strikes from the back but McGuire rolls nicely and manages to end up in full guard. Nice work by McGuire.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Crews accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Crews wants to control from the top but McGuire keeps moving.
Crews sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed McGuire's guard.
McGuire manages to get to full guard.
Crews trying to control but McGuire is working from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Crews controls from within his opponent's guard.

Crews passes McGuire's left leg - he's now in half guard.

That's time! Crews's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


A telegraphed takedown attempt from Crews is defended easily by McGuire.
Crews fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Crews uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by McGuire.
McGuire lands a jab to the head.
Crews looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Crews looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
McGuire ducks under a wild hook from Crews.
Crews shoots in looking for a takedown but McGuire manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Crews's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sean Crews. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Crews shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. McGuire defends it nicely.
McGuire scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.

McGuire connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Crews shoots for a takedown but McGuire saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Crews looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? McGuire is fending him off so far but Crews persists. Nope, McGuire circles away and we're back to standing.
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Crews. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.

McGuire throws a lazy right hand but Crews sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

McGuire misses with a looping left.
McGuire thows a body shot but no joy.
McGuire ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Crews has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from McGuire finds it's way round the side to connect with Crews's head.
McGuire tests Crews's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Crews fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but McGuire avoids it really well and circles away.
McGuire throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Crews sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Crews shoots and misses
and McGuire counters with a right hand to the body.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
McGuire dips to his left and cracks Crews with an uppercut!
Crews shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has McGuire pinned against the cage. McGuire gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Crews blocks a jab.
McGuire slips a straight right by Crews.

Crews misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from McGuire.
Crews misses with a low kick as McGuire jumps back.
Crews misses with a hook
and McGuire counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

McGuire fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Crews to the ground. McGuire is now in Crews's guard.
McGuire stands and throws Crews's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Crews sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

McGuire looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
McGuire trying to control the action but Crews is working from the bottom.

Crews is looking for a sweep. McGuire is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
McGuire moves into full mount! Crews won't be happy about that!
Crews is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

McGuire goes for an armbar but Crews turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Crews.
McGuire controls Crews momentarily but Crews frees himself.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

McGuire has his foot on Crews's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Crews works his way back into a safe position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bryer McGuire showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


McGuire takes a swing at Crews's ribcage but misses.
McGuire looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Crews dives in and grabs McGuire's left leg, looking for a takedown. McGuire pushes down on Crews's head and hops out.
McGuire slips a jab from Crews.
Crews throws an overhand right that lands on McGuire's shoulder, as McGuire tries to avoid the shot.
Crews shoots in looking for a takedown. McGuire tries to sprawl out of it but Crews keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. McGuire manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
McGuire tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Crews was well out of range. Poor timing from McGuire.

Sean Crews is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Crews looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? McGuire is fending him off so far but Crews persists. Nope, McGuire circles away and we're back to standing.

McGuire connects with a body shot that sends Crews's belly button to the back.
Crews misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Crews moves out of range as McGuire strikes.
McGuire swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Bryer McGuire seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Crews fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. McGuire sprawls well initially but Crews persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McGuire has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Crews is working away from the top position though.
Crews tries to pass to full mount but McGuire defends it.
Crews not landing any meaningful shots this time.

McGuire throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
McGuire works his way to full guard. Good work.
McGuire is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

McGuire looking for a guillotine here but Crews defends easily.
Crews forces his way into half guard.

Crews is looking for a kimura but McGuire is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Crews to get the leverage.
Crews works his foot free and advances to mount.
Crews mounts McGuire! Really nice guard pass there!

Crews looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Crews tries to control but McGuire wriggling away.
McGuire is desperately trying to improve his position but Crews has a good base and remains in mount.
McGuire sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

McGuire is trying to control Crews's posture. Crews takes advantage of the lull and advances to side control. He also appears to have an arm triangle here! Uh oh, big trouble for McGuire! Crews is rotating here... this could be the end... McGuire is out! Crews has ended this one emphatically! Great submission!

Our winner, Sean Crews, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
