The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jie fails with the takedown

so Nowakowski counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Jie holds on and takes a little breather.

Nowakowski drops back, looking for a kneebar! Jie looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Jie looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Jie!
Nowakowski is trying to control Jie's posture but Jie avoids it.
Jie tries to move to mount but Nowakowski blocks the move with his legs.

Nowakowski is not content to let Jie control the position.
Jie tries to stand but Nowakowski is controlling his head.
Nowakowski manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Nowakowski works his way to full guard. Good work.
Jie throws a strike but Nowakowski rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Nowakowski passes Jie's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Nowakowski has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Jie defend it? Nowakowski steps over the head and cranks it - Jie is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Nowakowski!
