Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Derrick Laston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lyoto Rapide (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lyoto Rapide is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Derrick Laston!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lyoto Rapide!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rapide tries for a takedown but Laston sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Laston bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Laston tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Laston has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Laston tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Laston is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Rapide knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Laston looks up at the clock and then as Rapide takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Laston smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Laston tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Rapide sneaks back into half guard.

Laston is looking for a kimura here.
Laston has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Rapide tries to hold on but Laston postures up.
Laston is working for a guillotine from mount but Rapide frees his head quite easily.

Rapide keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Laston looking to secure an arm triangle but Rapide defends it well.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Laston looking to control but Rapide is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Rapide bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Laston is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Laston looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Rapide passes into half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rapide tries to stand and escape but Laston is controlling the position.
Rapide is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Laston is just riding it out for now. Rapide eventually gives up the hold.
Rapide is pressing down on Laston's thigh, looking to free his foot. Laston is holding on for now.

Laston trying to hold on to Rapide's head to control him but Rapide postures up.
Laston has one foot on Rapide's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Laston feints and as Rapide raises his hands in defense, Laston changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Rapide controls Laston momentarily but Laston frees himself.

Laston lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Derrick Laston dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Rapide tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Laston cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
It looks like Lyoto Rapide has been cut.
Rapide circles away from the clinch attempt.
Rapide shoots in looking for a takedown but Laston manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Rapide's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Laston dodges the punch combination from Rapide.
Rapide shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Laston but Laston pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Laston drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Laston passes Rapide's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Laston is keen to just control but Rapide is a slippery customer.

Laston is working for a submission of some sort.
Derrick Laston overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Laston is nestled in close to Rapide, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Laston is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Rapide doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Laston.
Laston stops Rapide from getting back to his feet.
Rapide is breathing heavily.
Rapide wants to improve his position but Laston is controlling well.
Rapide is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Rapide is in trouble now - Laston has advanced to mount!

Laston looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Laston is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Rapide can do to turn this around?
Laston is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Laston extends the arm and Rapide is forced to tap!
