PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Clinton Roy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeff Horton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Clinton Roy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jeff Horton!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Josh West and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horton throws a nice inside leg kick.
Jeff Horton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Horton pushes Roy up against the cage in a clinch.
Horton gets through Roy's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Roy has Horton pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Horton manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Horton tries to break free but Roy pushes him back against the cage.

Roy throws a right hand that Horton ducks under and follows up with a left that Horton also avoids with ease.

Roy gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Roy wants a takedown but no success here.

Roy is looking to take this one to the mat.

Horton's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Horton closes the distance and pushes Roy back into the cage.

Horton is fighting off a takedown attempt but Roy is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Horton to the mat. Horton regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Roy throws a strike but Horton rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Roy is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Roy is trying to keep Horton in close.
Horton is looking to work some ground and pound but Roy has wrist control.
Horton trying to control the position from guard on top but Roy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Horton closes the distance and pushes Roy back into the cage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Roy tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Horton just stands there and leans against the cage.
Roy is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Horton pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Horton wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jeff Horton dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Roy wants to clinch.
Horton misses with a two punch combination.
Horton tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Horton misses with a body kick.

Horton instigates a clinch.

Horton breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Horton goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Horton tries a head kick but it misses.
Roy tries to clinch there but Horton circles away.

A looping hook to the body misses from Horton. Roy does a little dance to reset his feet.
Horton tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Roy is looking to clinch but Horton is avoiding it.
Roy uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Horton.
Roy avoids the head kick by Horton.
Horton is breathing heavily.
Roy tests Horton's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Roy really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

and Roy counters with a three punch combo that has Horton backing up. Horton nods at Roy to acknowledge the strikes.
Horton pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Roy feints and as Horton raises his hands in defense, Roy changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Roy will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Roy stands up from guard. Let's bang!

A lazy body kick from Horton

and Roy moves into the clinch.
Roy tries to score a body lock takedown but Horton shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Horton tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Roy keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Horton's efforts to push away.
Roy has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Horton after a bit of a struggle.

Horton successfully pulls guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Roy makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Roy wants to control from the top but Horton keeps moving.

That was a close second round but I would say that Clinton Roy will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Roy stands up from Horton's guard - Roy perhaps looking for a knockout.
Roy blocks a head kick by Horton.
Horton pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Roy is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Roy shoots in but Horton avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Horton fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Roy manages to avoid it.
Horton is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Roy rather than just go for the knockout.

Horton pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Roy on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Roy throws a series of strikes that have Horton backpedaling.

Roy fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Horton to the ground. Roy is now in Horton's guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Roy thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Roy has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Roy drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Roy jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Clinton Roy.
I think Roy has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
