PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Conteh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wesley Templar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, John Conteh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 10 - 0, fighting out of London, Wesley Templar!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Conteh lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.


It looks like Wesley Templar has been cut.
Conteh keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Templar pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Templar avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Templar looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Templar dives in for a single leg takedown but Conteh sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
I was talking to Conteh's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Templar wants to break the clinch but can't.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Templar shoots for a takedown but Conteh saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

John Conteh has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wesley Templar.

Templar throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Conteh's waist but Conteh gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Templar off to one side.
Templar changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Conteh tries to avoid it but Templar manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Conteh to the ground. Conteh escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Templar fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Conteh manages to avoid it.
Conteh throws a right and a left that Templar avoids nicely.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Templar jumps guard and drags Conteh to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Conteh decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wesley Templar showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

I've got Templar winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
