Coming up we have a bantamweight kickboxing rules bout between John Schmidt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ukyo Sato (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Schmidt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Ukyo Sato!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Yukihiro Shimada and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A swing and a miss from Sato.
Schmidt keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Sato.
Schmidt misses with a double jab.
Sato checks the leg kick nicely there.
Schmidt needs to keep his hands up - Sato had a free shot at his head there.
Schmidt buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Sato with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
A low kick from Schmidt is predictable there
and Sato counters with a body kick.
Sato scores with a sloppy right hand. Schmidt should have avoided that one.
A nice leg kick lands there from Schmidt.
Sato has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Schmidt feints and then cracks Sato's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Sato down.
Sato drops his hands momentarily and Schmidt takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Sato looks to score with a jab to the body but Schmidt is just out of range.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Schmidt throws a leg kick but Sato sees it coming and moves out of range.
Schmidt is looking to clinch but Sato is avoiding it.

Sato lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Schmidt misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Sato misses with a jab, cross combination.
Schmidt slips a straight right by Sato.

Schmidt rushes Sato and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch.

Sato breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Sato buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Schmidt cracks Sato with an open hand slap.

Sato tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Schmidt is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Schmidt takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Schmidt lands a glancing blow to the side of Sato's head.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Sato is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Schmidt.
A looping hook to the body misses from Sato. Schmidt does a little dance to reset his feet.
Schmidt uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Sato.
Schmidt shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ukyo Sato dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Schmidt takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Schmidt throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Sato stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Schmidt.
Schmidt pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Schmidt avoids a punch combination nicely.
Sato throws a wild body kick that Schmidt sees coming a mile off.
Sato throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Sato avoids the head kick by Schmidt.
Schmidt waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Sato.
Schmidt does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Schmidt tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Sato paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Ukyo Sato seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Sato connects with the punch.
Sato is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.

Schmidt gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Sato avoids the body shot from Schmidt.
Sato misses with an attempted mid kick.
Sato misses the shot to the body.
Nice uppercut lands for Sato. That snapped Schmidt's head back.
Sato lands a glancing blow to the side of Schmidt's head.

Ukyo Sato seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Schmidt gets cracked there but stands up to it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Sato cracks Schmidt with a perfect right hand that drops him to the mat! Schmidt is sitting up but I can't see if he's OK from my position. The referee's count has reached 5,6,7 and Schmidt is still not up. Can he make it? 8,9,10! He's out! Schmidt could not beat the count!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:28 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punch). Ukyo Sato!
