PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Stephen Mur (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Judd Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Stephen Mur!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Judd Brown!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Michael Johnstone and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Brown manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Mur on his heels. He'll look to pass Mur's guard now, I'm sure.
Mur has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Mur tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Mur pulls Brown in close to prevent any damage.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Brown is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Mur's half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Brown is trying to control the action in half guard but Mur is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mur manages to get to full guard.
Brown trying to control but Mur is working from the bottom.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Judd Brown hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Brown gets a clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Mur is fighting off a takedown attempt but Brown is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Mur to the mat. Mur regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Mur is pulling down on Brown's head. It's preventing any offense from Brown, at least for the moment.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Judd Brown.

Brown gets a takedown into half guard.
Mur tries to get to full guard but Brown has control of the leg.
Mur preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Mur might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Mur regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Brown.
Brown trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Mur manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mur not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Judd Brown dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Judd Brown's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Brown instigates a clinch.

Brown ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Brown no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Mur controls from within his opponent's guard.
Judd Brown has got the better of the ground game so far.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Stephen Mur just wasn't active enough.
Brown lands with a slapping head kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mur is looking to chop away at Brown's legs.
Mur throws a chopping leg kick but Brown manages to avoid taking any serious damage.

Brown closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Brown lands in his opponent's guard.
Mur looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Brown trying to control the position from guard on top but Mur is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Mur is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Judd Brown wasn't active enough on the ground.

Brown fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Mur sprawls well initially but Brown persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Mur works his way to full guard. Good work.
Brown trying to control but Mur is working from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Brown stands up and waves to Mur to follow him.

Brown looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Mur trying to control from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Brown decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Mur throws a front kick aimed at Brown's knee but Brown avoids it well.

Brown shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Mur napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Mur sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mur is doing well to control the position and prevent Brown from advancing to side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Judd Brown showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!



Brown drives through with a takedown into Mur's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Brown must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Mur pulls Brown in close to his closed guard and prevents Brown from doing any damage or advancing position.
Mur has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Brown moves into range and clinches up with Mur.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mur has Brown pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Brown manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Brown scores with a knee to the head.


It looks like Stephen Mur has been cut.
Brown tries to circle away but Mur has him pinned against the cage.

Brown drags the fight down to the ground.
Mur controlling from the top position.
Mur passes Brown's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Mur frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mur content just to control the position here.
Mur pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.
Mur controlling his opponent.
Mur is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Brown is in real trouble.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mur controls the position.

Brown trying to control the position but Mur manages to sink in the hooks.
Mur really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Brown.
Mur's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Stephen Mur.
Brown fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A low kick from Mur misses
and Brown counters with a big head kick but Mur shrugs it off.

Mur shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Brown is trying to defend but Mur finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mur controlling the action here.
Stephen Mur has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Judd Brown is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Stephen Mur showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Brown has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
